About how much water do garlic plants need?

I’m growing these babies indoors, four immature garlic plants in two semi-large pots. They seem to be functioning pretty well off of the water I’m giving them- about enough to make water just start to spill out the bottom once every other day- but should I be watering them more or less often than that?
Do you have any tips for this newbie gardener once he decides to move these plants from pot to soil? Do deer attack garlic plants?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re going about the garlic-growing process all wrong.
Garlic should be planted in mid-autumn, and it should be planted outdoors, in the ground. It will begin to establish roots before winter sets in and begin to grow again in very early spring. My own garlic began sprouting in early March here in Ohio and now the foliage has achieved its full size and I imagine the bulbs are growing. I didn’t need to worry about "how much water" to give them. The snow and winter rains did that for me.
If you expect to get any sort of crop from your garlic, it should be planted outside immediately. Dig the garlic out of the pots with a large rootball so you don’t disturb the roots and shock the plants. Or at least get those pots outside. Garlic should never be grown indoors.
The soil should be kept evenly moist, but never soggy. When do they need to be watered? Stick your finger in the dirt. When the top inch or two feels dry, then it’s time to water.
