Filtered tap water smell?
Whenever I use the faucet from the kitchen sink either with tap water or with the pur filter on it, the water smells like plant roots/soil. I noticed the smell a few months ago, but the water tastes and looks fine. However, it only occurs if I leave water either in the sink, or out for my cat; it will start to stink after about a day. Occasionally, it will come out of the tap smelling that way even through the filter, too. I’ve installed a brand new faucet with new pipes, and I’ve thoroughly cleaned out the sink and garbage disposal, but the smell continues. What could it be? What should I do?
Sorry, not only occurs, I mean usually occurs.

That is an indication of deep well water. If you have a personal well, you can consult with a company about water treatment possibilities. If your on municipal water, its most likely not chlorinated. I have that same problem particularly after a hard rain. You can call the utility and ask them if they can do something to alleviate the problem.
There is not much you can do about it. The smell is coming from where the town is storing the water. Sometimes these holding receptacles get old and start to give the water and odour at certain times.
