Hot water valve handle broke off and I turned off the main water line but the hot water still runs. Help!?
I attempted to turn off the valves under the sink so I could install a new faucet but the hot water valve handle broke off. The cold water side is fine. I turned off the water on the outside of the house which seems to have worked except for the broken hot water valve. Hot water is constantly running. How do I get it to stop?

the hot should cut off shortly. It is connected to te main supply, but it has a pressure tank… once that tank drains a bit, do your plumbing work an then get the hell out (after getting paid of course)
there are two ways you can do this
1. Turn off the main water supply to the house and then drain off the hot water and let it "run out". Be sure that the hot water is not hot any more or you will cause the h/w tank to crush itself (expansion and contraction)
2. You can get a freeze kit and freeze the hot water pipe near the h/w valve and then change the valve (which I assume has ceased)
Good luck
Turn off the hot water outlet valve above your hot water tank. the hot water side is still pressurized so water will still come out
