How do I clean a water snake jacket?

I have a butter yellow water snake jacket that has a black smudge on it. I have no idea what this is, but it looks like dirt or grime. How can I clean it without damaging it?

Remove jacket from snake. Place jacket in washer after pretreating spot.Wash in cold water. Hang to dry. Replace jacket on snake.
