New plastics often have a "taste" if their process isn't "fit" for usage with their purpose. Or, if they are "raw" and not finished right. Minerals, and time will take the taste out, then I would put a whole house filter on it, so that you dont get all the hard minerals in suspension onto your fixtures and ruin them. I have two of them in my house and I catch a lot of lime, (really slick and nasty looking, and my wife told me that if I dont "change out" regularly, I'm FIRED!). :) I wish you well..
