How do I sanitize a water jug before I refill it at a spring water refilling station? I know you can't use…
I know you cannot use soap in the jug since it could leave a residue in your refilled drinking water. I assume you use a bit of bleach and cold water to clean your water jug… does anyone know the amount? and the exact way to safely do this?
I was also told a while back of a way to refresh the water jug with baking soda (this is a side question - but not the main one!)…
the jugs are one gallon drinking water jugs that have never been used for anything besides water. We have a local station where we can fill jugs of spring water for 25cents. I have about 15 jugs and would like to use the station - but not before my jugs are sanitized.
any help?

In the military, they teach us to clean our cantines with 1 part bleach to 5 parts warm water. Rinse out a few times with more warm/hot water and let air dry with the lid off. Hope this helps.
2 Drops of bleach per gallon of water purify the water of most harmful bacteria and crud,… I know it doesn’t answer your container-sterilizing question, but I’d guess a few more drops of the goodstuff would take care of what concerns you.
very hot water!
