Bottled water are usually packaged in PET (Poly Ethylene Tetramine). It depends on the bottle manufacturer to control the BPA content in the manufacturing process. BPA (Bisphenol A) is the compound used in the plastic manufacturing process, to provide plasticity and to prevent other plasticizers from evaporating from sun’s UV rays.
Coming to the effects of BPA on human body, there had been lots of medical research focussed on this. But, no one had found any link between the presence of BPA in our blood stream and medical problems. Lots of people say BPA is carcinogenic and will cause cancer. It is not proved either. Guess, we have not came across a usable genetic marker in this research. Due to the time it might take for BPA to potentially affect us, the research is on going and will take a very long time to arrive at a conclusion.
To be on the safer side, many governments has banned use of BPA in infant milk bottles. Why risk a small baby’s future, right?
For your personal life style, you can buy one of those BPA free plastic bottles available now days at all major retailers. Some people also use metallic bottles. But, you will never know where the shine or the metallic color on those metal containers comes from right? Just go for BPA free plastic bottle, for time being.
I’d be more worried about phtalates–the BPA that leaches is far less carcinogenic than most of your cosmetics. Try using a reusable waterbottle, like a new Sigg or a stainless steel bottle–or there’s one with bamboo surrounding glass. It’s better for the environment, too.
