Prescription drugs in water and reverse osmosis?
I was going to order a reverse osmosis system today to replace bottle waters, but I saw that artical about prescription drugs in city water today. Would a reverse osmosis system filter the drugs out?
I’ve read that bottle water may not be safer than tap water, now I’m at a loss of what is the safest water for my baby. Any idea what’s is the purest water available? what’s the best filtering system?
I boycott PUR, they belong to Proctor & Gamble which still does cruel animal testing for no good reason.

((update) i am finding differing opinions on Reverse Osmosis…some sources are saying that they do..some that they dont. Plants will not start processing the water supply with RO machines untill it is proven that they are effective and that the drugs in the water are a real risk to our health.))

Reverse Osmosis does not filter these things out…it does not even get 100% of all the arsenic, flouride, etc that is in the water…only on average 95% and that is on a brand new filter under perfect circumstances.
I am researching the internet for this right now (this question came up in my search browser so i thought id drop in) and as far as I am learing there is no way yet to get these drugs out of the water with any filter. They have not even begun to address the issue although they have known about it for over a year. Everyone is wating for the government to do something about it.
It will take time for them to test the water and perform tests on new filtering technology to see if they can claim that these drugs are indeed being filtered out with their brand of filter.
100% steam Distilled Water is the best to drink..there is nothing in it but water…Idealy it is what should be running through our pipes…..there are companies that will deliver it to your door for not much more than going to get it yourself. If you set up a contract it gets cheaper.
However and unfortunatly it is not possible to get all your water in your house distilled…the process takes time and it would be impossible to keep that much on hand for showers, baths etc. Which would be ideal since our skin is so vulnerable when heated up in the shower or bath.
There is actually caffinated soap and you can get a full cup of coffee’s worth of caffine through your skin during a shower becasue of that vulnerability while the pores are open.
Yes you are right…bottled water is just tap water from another city…total fraud..(not all brands…but alot of them). It is no safer than your own tap.
Distilled water is the only water that anyone should ever be drinking…(mineral waters also have major problems.)
PUR water filters on the tap will filter out such impurities, just be sure to change the filter inside every month or so.
Ok, i think you are being a bit overprotective. Tap water will be just fine.
Wise investment for your body and the environment.
Depending on where you live (water hardness varies), you may also be wise to install a Refiner (which softens your water and also removes the chlorine)
As for the Reverse Osmosis – Many different types around, I suggest getting a 5 stage RO, and yes it removes 98-99% of things in the water. (Can produce up to 75 gallons a day)

Distillation is the cleanest water you can get – although costly and you don’t get a lot of water out of them.
Tap water is already usually double filtered and yet impurities and medicines still get through. Reverse osmosis is a good bet for safer water, as are some bottled waters. The problem is that the ground water is contaminated in some areas.
Pur filters are good if you can remember to change them frequently.
Who knows what is safe anymore>: With all that is going on these days, i’m suprised they even told us about the contaiminated water. I’m sticking to bottled. I hope it’s safer.
