We just bought our first house
) and it came with a jacuzzi tub. It does not appear to have been cleaned for a while as when the tub is full of water the big intake opening has chunks of nasty algae-looking stuff coming out of it into the bath water. I love my baths! How do I clean the jacuzzi system so I can start enjoying my favourite me-time activity again?

I have a 60 gallon tank outside. I’m looking for a filter that can be put on the left side of my tank(not underneath it like a rena filstar xp3), keeps the water crystal clear, easy to maintain and optionally with a UV sterilizer/filter. Any suggestions?
thanks Scott S
@Mal…it’s outside UNDER the patio and I COVERED it from sunlight, most of the sides. It’s outside because originally, it was for my turtles and I was able to clean it often to rid of algae but now i want fish in it… My tank gets sunlight for about 2-4 hours depending on clear skies. And, why the hell would I put it where rain can get in and why in a garage….?

I have been feeling sick the last week and I just noticed that there was algae growing in my Brita pitcher. I have been drinking this for a while so I think this might have been what was making me sick. What are the health effects of drinking water with algae in it?

At 7am this morning I made my son a bottle using the last of the water in the pitcher…2 hours later I went to refill it and noticed some bright green mold/algae in the bottom.
I did not notice it when I made the bottle so can this form in just 2 hours? If not then I gave my son water from this so is he in any danger of becoming sick?
any information would be helpful. Thank you

i have a jacuzzi converted into a koi pond. the pond has been up for about two and a half weeks. I have one bio filter. one water lilly and some other water plants. the water is slightly murky. i cant see my koi..i get some shade and some sun..i have two plecos in there somewhere..one 5 inch tancho koi, a 4 inch ghost koi, a 6 inch koi (it has a dingy white the head seems like it has no color), and a 9 inch fish (they said it was a koi but it doesnt have barbels)…there isnt any sign of algae except for the greenish tinge in the water…i’ve used water clear but does not seem to work.
1. what is the big 9 inch (koi) without the barbels…is it really a koi
2. why is the (white) koi seem to be without color…is he really white
3. how can i get the water cleaner without a uv filter. would it be beneficial to get another bio filter?? some snails?? more plecos??

I know that light is the problem but is there any way to reduce the amount of algae growing without having to move the tank? I have heard about a UV filter? Or maybe a screen that reduces the light passing through?

Can anyone help. I have a fairly substantial size pond and I have quite a new UV Cleaning Filter system. When I purchased the unit, the person at the shop said that I was not to clean out the foam in the unit as it needed to get "full of algae" etc in order for it to work correctly. However, the unit seems to be quite clogged and is not pumping the water out of the hoses back into the pond at the same rate it was when I turned it on from new. Am I doing something wrong. I have changed the UV Filter and the pump pumping the water into the unit is clear. Do I need to clean it out?? My Pond water is particularly green

I love having the tank in my room but I just canNOT sleep with that running water sound! It’s a 10 gallon tank with 1 goldfish and 1 algae eater. I just want to know if it is safe to turn off their filter when I go to bed and turn it back on in the morning.

Our water cooler’s tank is starting to form algae (yuk), however the opening is too small for me to get my hand in, so how do I clean the inside of the tank? Is the solution to buy a new tank or can it be cleaned by hand?

The dispenser on the outside of my refrigerator has stuff all in it. I guess it’s black algae. What is a safe way to clean that?

Hi, could anyone tell me how does pH affect the algae community composition? If possible, pls explain it in details. Thanks.
My question’s actually asking for how does pH affect the algae composition, for eg, if the pH scale lowers down to become acidic, will some of the algae organisms be killed? Or what happens to the rest of the algaculture? To stay active or inactive? Its growth rate is increased or any other specific things that will take place if the pH scale is moving up or down?

I have a crock style water dispenser for my dogs, and during the winter algae formed in the neck of it. I tried air drying it first, and scrubbing with a (new-never used) wine decanter scrubber with no results. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can get rid of the algae without any harmful chemicals? (If not, looks like I will be purchasing a new one.)
The neck of the crock is way too small to fit any hand in with a scotch brite. But thanks for the suggestion.

(Los Angeles) Every now and then, the water in my brita water filter turns green at the bottom. I’ve cleaned the filter many times and changed the filter itself. Is my filter growing algae or something or is the filter not catching something coming out of my faucet?!!
This is the second time it’s happened and I have not exceeded the lifespan of both filters. Is this green stuff going to cause me to get sick? I may have drank a cup or two without noticing.

I have a plastic water filter (Brita) you just fill under the tap and water collects into the jug. I clean it regularly but after a bit it still gets a sort of faint algae taste. I’m sure it can’t be good, but does anyone know about this, and have you ever heard of warnings against water filters?
