We just got a new house this week, it’s older probably built in the 50′s or 60′s.
We turned on the bath tub and inky black water came out of the faucet, same thing happened when we turned on the faucets in both bathroom sinks and when you flush the toilet the tank fills with black water.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause this and how to fix it?
Thanks
we let it run for a looong time and it’s still black.

I just purchased a new double-wide mobile home, and my water is horrible. It’s full of iron and is turning everything orange. My clothes, my toilet bowls, bath-tub, and soon my hair! So I need a water softener bad. I just don’t know what kind I need. I need one that will work for my problems, but I don’t want to spend more money than I need to. What do I need to look for in a water softener? Can someone please help (preferably someone who has had experience with this…) Thanks so much!

I am in Noida, India. I have some plants at home. When I go for vacation for 1-2 weeks, the only way to water the plants is to ask some neighbor to do that. But it doesn’t always work out good. Does anybody know an economical way to water the plants automatically in my absence? I have heard of automatic watering kits available in US but have not seen in India.
Wonderful suggestions. Thanks everybody for sharing great innovative ways to water the plants during vacation.
I tried the thread based water but that didnt work out that well, possibly because the plants were exposed to sun.
I am trying out the inverted soft drink bottle approach now.
My last resort will be the bath-tub one.
Thanks a lot everybody again.

I had to cut my water on and off for a few days b/c the water has been running inside the water heater. It seems like the water problem was coming from the bath tub. I had to replace the shower and the bath knobs for it to stop running. Now I am getting cold water due to this problem. How do I get the hot water to work again after cutting it on and off?
