I can not put it on a stove at work. All I have available it boiling hot water available from the water cooler. How long should I let it sit in there or does it HAVE to have rapid boiling water?

bottle water???

how long do i have to keep boiling water for my son’s formula? he’s 4 1/2 months old and he only has a bottle of formula like once a day usually but we’re moving and he’s going to spend the night with my aunt so i want to make it as easy as possible for her…should i have her boil the water? she has one of those separate water filters…not a brita or anything, its like connected to her sink…

My friend read an artical that styrofoam realeases toxins when cooken, so I was wondering if puting the boiling water into ramen cups can release the toxins in the cup.
Thanks

So, is boiling water that comes out from the sink healthier than bottled spring water like Poland Spring?

The water where I live has extremely high ratings, and I am confident in drinking it, even though I still regularly keep a PUR pitcher in the fridge. I’m wondering if it is ok to just fill a cup with extremely hot tap water and then put a tea bag in it, as opposed to boiling water first. Thanks!

I have a collection of coins, and I wanted to clean them. I was wondering if by boiling water in a pot, then adding the pennies in the boiling water, it would harm either the penny or the pot in any way.

Just curious to know why some chocolate cake recipes call for boiling water. Why does the temperature of the water matter? I mean, can’t you just use room temperature water? What diff does it make, and is why is boiling the water important?
This is the recipe I used: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/one-bowl-chocolate-cake-iii/detail.aspx The cake turned out great, but I would really like to know what would have happened if I didn’t use the boiling water. Another recipe I tried before just used plain water (http://www.verybestbaking.com/recipes/detail.aspx?ID=30351). It didn’t seem much different from the recipe with the boiling water…

What should I do about horrible tap water?

They say that tap water is better than bottled water, both for us, and the environment. Here lies the problem. (I’m from NC btw) I used to drink straight from the sink or the fridge door. It tasted fine (like you would expect water to taste) and I almost replaced soda/tea/coffee entirely. I moved to TX (Killeen) and I can’t stand the water here! At first I could barely stand to take a shower in it but obviously I had to get used to it.(If I don’t keep the bathroom door open I still get that weird feeling like I’ve been in the pool too long) I tried attached a Pur filter to my tap, it didn’t really help. I took the filtered water and put it in a Brita pitcher… Nothing. I can still taste that chemically-cholriny gunk. I do buy water by the gallon rather than individual bottles, but I’d like to drink from the tap again. I can’t really modify my sink/plumbing area (yay apartment living). Other than the above filters and boiling water every time I get thirsty, what can I do? Buying all those gallons can’t be any better than buying Auqafina?
I checked the water reports available online for both my current city and my home. Home seems to have a lot less of most of the contaminants listed. *lightbulb*

In addition, when I plugged it in for the first time, it seems noisy (like boiling water). Will this continue until a certain amount of water is heated, or will it always be noisy? We’ve unplugged it for now. (This is a new home construction and we are not living in the house yet.)

faucet water filters…?

How effective are these and what are the differences between water filtered through the tap and boiling water?

I know that boiling kills everything. Some filters claim to remove all chemicals but keep flouride, what is that?
Larry L, what the hell are you on about? I don’t understand a thing you said.

A steel tank used for furl delivery is fitted with a safety valve that opens if the internal pressure exceed 1.00 *10^3torr . It is filled with methane at 23 C and 0.991 atm and placed in boiling water at exactly 100 C. What is the new pressure? Will the safety valve open?

I’ve recently moved and the area i’m staying in this year has quite horrid water, it doesn’t seem to be doing peoples skin any good either if water can affect that, my friends just bought a brita filter and it wasn’t very expensive but I don’t think I would bother to keep buying cartridges for it as we are only here till summer. Does boiling water then keeping it in the fridge have a similar effect? or not? thanks!
Thank you so much everyone! I know I could have researched it but this was much quicker and I wondered what other people thought of filters, I think I’ll just buy a Brita filter now.
Thank you all!

Is there any cookware resistant from water stains?

I’m just getting into the habit of boiling my water for tea and I have no tea kettle. So I have some stainless steel pots and have been using the smallest I have to boil water. After a day of boiling water (breakfast, lunch, dinner) my pot gets water stains. Just wondering if there is some new cookware out there that maybe resists the development of water stains?
I’m using tap water, don’t have the coinage for filling gallons of water at the local purifying station. Just curious if there is some resistant-to-water-stain Pots or pans out there?

My aquarium water turned a dense green about an hour after filling it with clean water. I drained it and refilled it and again within an hour it was solid green. I’ve done this four times and can’t get it clear. What happened? I tried putting everything in boiling water, filling the tank with boiling water but as soon as it cools it’s green again. I’ve never had this problem before.
