By Chris Ladd, EatingWell November/December 2007In the last two decades bottled water has gone from extraneous to ubiquitous. Despite having one of the best public water systems in the world, Americans continue to buy more and more bottled water—per capita, 27.6 gallons last year, up from 17.8 gallons in 2000 (and only 1.6 gallons in 1976). Is it worth it?
1. 40% of bottled water—including top-brands Aquafina and Dasani—is simply filtered tap water, not water from natural springs or other “pure” sources.
2. In the United States, more than 10 million barrels of oil are used to bottle water annually—and that’s just production. Consider the oil consumption (and emissions) required to bring water to the U.S. from Fiji, for example.
3. Americans throw away 22 billion water bottles each year, over 60 million each day. It can take as long as 1,000 years for the average plastic bottle to biodegrade.
4. Numerous studies have shown that bottled water is generally no safer or healthier than tap water, despite costing up to 10,000 times more.
Bottled Water vs. Tap
PLEASE READ GUYS I THINK THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT!!!!

I want to buy one and get rid of the bottle water I buy. Do they work and are they cheaper than sparkletts water delivery? I get 3 five gallon jugs with the hot and cold dispenser. How often do you replace the filters?

hi, i know there is a lot of chlorine in the tap water. i heard that if i leave some water in buckets under the sun for a day or two it helps to eliminate all the harmful chemicals. And the water is much better/pure to use in ones organic garden.
short of spending money to buy filtered bottle water for my garden what to do? how to avoid having insects like mosquitoes attracted is there some natural repellent?
thanx
forgot to mention i’m vegan so animal products don’t work for me….repelling insects from the garden,I also need to know but i was wondering specifically to the sitting water, how to keep mosquitoes away.

I was going to order a reverse osmosis system today to replace bottle waters, but I saw that artical about prescription drugs in city water today. Would a reverse osmosis system filter the drugs out?
I’ve read that bottle water may not be safer than tap water, now I’m at a loss of what is the safest water for my baby. Any idea what’s is the purest water available? what’s the best filtering system?
I boycott PUR, they belong to Proctor & Gamble which still does cruel animal testing for no good reason.
I’m in Orlando, Florida

I was thinking that it would be best if I started the home delivery of water than trying to catch a sale on bottle water that equal 3 gallon or 24 bottle.

I’m weaning myself off of soda. Lately I have found that I have been substituting seltzer water for regular bottled water.
I don’t think it is harmful to my health. To be on the safe side I force myself to drink bottle water when working out.
My question is what is the difference between the two? Cause and effect? Thanks in advance for your time.
