I was just curious if a brita filter is decent for aquarium water for salt water tanks? RO/DO filters are soooo expensive and seems like you have to replace the filter rather quick which of course means you are spending more money than originally thought. I was curious of the Brtia filters?

We live in an area with pretty hard water, but our house has a built-in softener that is pretty effective at removing minerals. The water is still not really drinkable, however — it’s just not tasty. We tried using a Brita filter for a while, but that actually made the water taste even saltier. So…what if we added a filtration system under the sink? Would that be effective, given that we already have a softener?

Okay, so the water in my apartment is kind of weird tasting (it’s Philadelphia water, so that may be why) and I was looking for some way to make it taste better because I do drink a lot of water but it isn’t exactly cheap to be buying bottled water every week. Would a Brita filter make the water taste better, or is it ineffective as far as removing odd flavors from water? Also, which is better the PUR filter or the Brita filter? (If filters such as these don’t work, what can I do to make the water taste better?)
Eh, I think that would only mask it. Besides, I prefer just plain ice-cold water.
I have tried making tea and hot chocolate with the water and it still tastes funky anyway, so I think I would still be able to taste it even with those packets.

Sometimes when I drink water, I feel like I just get thirstier no matter how much more I drink. And I’m not talking about bottled water, because I know sometimes that can have added sodium (ie Dasani water which right in the ingredients lists "water, salt") I only drink water from my brita filter. Could it be because I don’t drink enough water regularly?

I was reading on a website that when you are trying to lose weight, it says to drink spring water. I don’t really like to buy bottled water, so I was wondering if you can substitute purified water like from a Brita filter for spring water and get the same results?

I use the brita water filters. I pour water in from a glass jar into the pitcher so that I don’t have to run water directly from the spicket. I make sure to pour slowly.
Every brita filter we use always has the charcoal specks in it the whole time we use it from start to finish.
I am getting sick and tired of the charcoal specks every time I get a drink.
Is there a brand that doesn’t leak as much charcoal or any charcoal?
Please any suggestions would help. Thanks.

Are they from the same company? And i tried the brita filter container, and it got dirty in 2 days or less, i had to clean it out with soap and water because it had these little things floating in it. Is the PUR water container a better buy?

I am just wondering how a Brita work.
Is it basically chromatography?
Does the Brita filter change hard water into soft water by removing Ca or Mg ions?

I took out my old brita filter, and the four holes in the bottom had green dots in it, not just the black I was expecting for the carbon. So I thought it was mold. I bought a new package of filters, and ALL FOUR fillters had the green little balls in them. Does anyone else have these little green balls in their filter ( in bottom four holes) . Is yours just black ( carbon) and I thus have mold?? Help!!!

I have a water softener and was wondering if a brita filter removes the sodium from the water.

i have a brita filter and i change the cartridge regularly but i notice the water in this area still tastes horrible! it’s like drinking from a fishtank, my room mate has a dupont filter and that tastes fine, which filter gives the best tasting water in your opinion? or is there anything i can do to make my filter work better?

I’ve recently moved and the area i’m staying in this year has quite horrid water, it doesn’t seem to be doing peoples skin any good either if water can affect that, my friends just bought a brita filter and it wasn’t very expensive but I don’t think I would bother to keep buying cartridges for it as we are only here till summer. Does boiling water then keeping it in the fridge have a similar effect? or not? thanks!
Thank you so much everyone! I know I could have researched it but this was much quicker and I wondered what other people thought of filters, I think I’ll just buy a Brita filter now.
Thank you all!

I have a Brita filter and a water bottle that I keep in my fridge. Whenever I want to drink water, I drink straight from the water bottle, and refill it as needed. Are there germs festering in the water bottle from my mouth? How often do I need to clean it?
