I saw black and brown particles. I know the black particles is the charcoal but what about brown particles?
I have to make a water filter only using things from the kitchen. Will burnt toast particles work the same as charcoal filters if I put it in my design? Also will rice or oregano work as a possible filtration method? Any other inputs would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I cant use any electronics
which does a better job at purifying water?
Reverse Osmosis which uses a membrane
or
water filter which uses charcoal?
I have Culligan reverse osmosis with 3 filters and charcoal filter, and we changed the filters only like a year ago, and for some reason about 2 weeks ago our pressure just dropped literally over night. We don’t have the money to get a plumber and tried pumping air into with bicycle pump but when we did, water started coming out where we were pumping. Anyone know how to increase water pressure for it?
I learned that activated charcoal will not take out flouride, alumina will, but looking for an easier way to get flouride out of drinking water.
I bought a cheap Culligan water pitcher from Walgreens for that’s charcoal filtered. The water tasted very strange. I normally drink tap water and like it a lot, but once filtered it added a strange taste at the end. Almost reminds me of lemon. My boyfriend agrees the water tastes different but not necessarily with the lemon comparison.
I have had water from Brita pitchers and don’t recall it having the weird taste. Has anyone else experienced this? What causes it?
I have to make a water filter for school using only things found in the kitchen. What kind of foods could I use that would filter water representing a charcoal or sand filter?
Today I bought one and used it for the first time. When I put water into it, the water came out very grey and blackish – like charcoal or something. Is that normal??
I have an old water softener from a previous house. My new house needs a whole house charcoal filter. Can I change out the softener media for activated charcoal and use the same filter for whole house removal of taste etc.? If so, what steps are required?
Thanks for offering your experience. RO really won’t work for me because of my water volume. Am hoping to be able to exchange the media for charcoal in a traditional softener.
I intend to use store-bought charcoal to remove the pollutants first. Would this work? I’m doing this because my water bills have been very high and it hasn’t rained much lately.
Hey everyone.
My refrigerator’s water dispenser is in desperate need of cleaning… the water tastes horrible even when the filter is changed and now I started noticing that black specs are forming from the water dispenser!
Given that these specs form when water stands still, I suspect they are fungi and not bits of activated charcoal.
I drink water from the tap now so I don’t use the dispenser, but it’d still be nice to know what to do about it… it looks ugly!
I use the brita water filters. I pour water in from a glass jar into the pitcher so that I don’t have to run water directly from the spicket. I make sure to pour slowly.
Every brita filter we use always has the charcoal specks in it the whole time we use it from start to finish.
I am getting sick and tired of the charcoal specks every time I get a drink.
Is there a brand that doesn’t leak as much charcoal or any charcoal?
Please any suggestions would help. Thanks.
Planning on installing a whole house water filter. I am on a private well and recently the water has began to taste the "rotten egg" taste and smell. Any suggestions or comments or recommendations would be appreciated.1 bath 2 bedroom house
It is weel water, so chlorine is involved. Yes it is hydrogen sufide and not bacteria, the whole neighbor hood has the smell. I am considering LifeSource brand. Has a backflush capability and charcoal among other sediment filters.
My typing is terrible this morning. It is well water, therefore chlorine removal is not in the question. Water has been tested and is safe and good.
I was recommended by my local aquatic retailer to try using Chemi-Pure (5oz half unit as my tank is only 20 gallons) because I have been having problems with my water being cloudy and my Ph constantly dropping. I followed all directions given including "rinsing the bag lightly before putting in the filter" and now my water is a charcoal color! My fish seem to be doing alright but is this normal? Will it clear up quickly? I have baby mollies in there and I’m concerned for them now. Please help!
phew! ok good. Thank you. I have never seen it get like that before. I guess I will rinse it a little better next time lol.
Yeah I probably should have explained this issue I’m having a little better. I have had a literally perfect tank for about a year. I do regular water changes and check my levels frequently.I bought 2 mollies about 3 weeks ago and one of them unfortunately was pregnant.(did not want babies as they are so delicate) It seems like ever since then, my water quality has deteriorated. I can’t see it being overpopulated as most of my fish have died. I have never had a spike like this, I have been using PH up for the dropping issues. Currently all I have in the tank are 1 mollie, and 1 small neon danio, and the mollie babies. I am only seeing 5 of them.As far as the product I used, it was actually very inexpensive and I do trust the store I go to as they have tutored me over the past 2 years on my aquarium. They sell nothing but aquarium items. I don;t ever trust anyone at lets say Petco or any of those other chain type pet stores. the staffs are unhelpful and unknowledgable.
Oh and I bought a new canister filter today. the tank I have is a 20 gallon and this one filtrates up to 40 gallons.
