Moving to China: Water filters required?

I will be living and working in Beijing as a young professional come next year at the local office of a US firm where I previously worked, and in preperation for my move, I’ve been reading up on life in China, and clean water seems to be an issue.

So I had a couple questions for other expats living there:

1. Would you recommend bringing with you faucet filters and filter pitchers, or should I wait until I get to China and buy something from there?
2. Do the faucet filters brought from the US generally fit Chinese plumbing?
3. Are there specific brands you would recommend?

I don’t feel comfortable drinking tap water. In my opinion, there is more incentive for Coca Cola to make clean Dasani, than it is for the government.

Both are making clean water because it’s the law, but Coca Cola has the extra incentive because they’re afraid they would get sued, which would negatively affect company earnings, etc.

So with that said, how can I test my tap water?

These days with a major water shortage, and many refrigerated airconditioners, is it possible to use the water from these Aircons to use as Drinking Water? Is it clean water or contaminated, or even poisoned? Or is it clean and able to be used to drink, because even my little window airconditioning system puts out a lot of water each day onto the ground.

I am wondering if there is a way to filter the added flouride out. I have read several disturbing things about flouride added to our water. (read this link http://www.uhealthnut.com/2006/03/drink_more_water_and_die.html) I don’t want to spend a fortune on bottled water, but if that’s what it takes to get clean water, I may have to…

I have had a goldfish, which lives in a bowl, for about 6 weeks. When I got the goldfish, the clerk at the pet store told me to take out 25% of the water each week, and replace it with clean water that has been treated with water conditioner. I have been doing this, and the water has stayed clear.

The problem is that there is a bunch of fish poop at the bottom of the bowl. It looks really gross.

I want to change all of the water in the bowl, but I am afraid that it will hurt the fish. The clerk at the pet store told me that the fish needs the bacteria in the water and I should not change all of the water at once. What do you think? Does anyone change all of the water regulary? Does it have any negative affects on the fish?

I’ve seen the difference between really clean water and hard water and how much money me and my wife can save, but I don’t have that kind of money right now to put on a water treatment system.

Al Gore says clean water is good, so it must be bad.

I’m thinking we should each drink a glass of raw sewage to prove how stupid it is for the government to mandate clean water.

What are Water Filtration Plants, and what do they do?

Please explain what are WFP, what do they do and how they clean water.
(And if possible, please explain how Chicago’s water management is made.)
Please no stupid answers like the first one below…someone gave that stupid answer a bad rating. Please actually answer the question!

What exactly is clean water (characteristics of it)?

As an American, I am very fortunate to have clean water available to me. But I know that many foreign countries do not have clean water available to them. Why is this, and what exactly makes water clean and unclean? Is it mainly the absence of disease in the water that makes it clean, or what?

The Clean Air and Clean Water acts moved pollution from one part of the environment to another. Where did conditions improve? Worsen? How do you think the laws should be changed?
