How is it that hot water shrinks clothes?
How is hot water different from cold water in terms of clothes shrinking in the wash? What is it about hot water that makes them shrink?

I have well water and had soem trouble with my water softener. The water softener is fixed but I have several articals of clothing (white, cottons) that have been stained with minerals. These clothes have been put through a the dryer. Is there anyway that I can remove these stains?
I can not use bleach in my home.
snuggle liquid + water + spray bottle = perfume ? id only put it on clothes not my skin but i want it to be more potent than just if you wash clothes in fabric softener
i dont care if its carcogenic or if people will know its fabric softener. i just like the smell better than most perfumes. all of your answers thus far suck
We have well water and it ruins all of our white clothes and stains the sinks, bathtub, etc. Would we be better off getting a water softening system or just getting county water?
i am desperate. I have tried to find consumer reports with no luck, only sites promoting their system. I have very hard water. is affecting the pipes, appliances, hair, clothes, etc. What is a dependable easy to use system that wont eat all my savings?
I have this Rain Drops Waster Softener and Detergent Booster that I’ve been using to help keep the iron stains out of my whites and I’m wondering if it’s ok to use with colors too? I have some clothes that are light in color that are affected by my nasty water as well and would like to be able to use a product to keep them looking clean.
Thanks in advance!!
I have a real problem with rust in my tab water. It’s destroying my clothes and awful to drink. I have to by bottle water to drink and cook with. The rust stains my bath tub and toilets. It’s a horrible thing. I live in a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom Manufactured home. Any information. Websites to find one’s that are cheap. One’s that are easy to install. What ever information you can give would make my day.
Thanks!
there is so much wasted water when my softener recycles, so need to know if I can use this water to wash clothes.
I just moved into a condo. I have noticed these types of stains on my clothes (same on all of them). I’ve determined them to be water stains. They’re a greyish/whitish color, and the pattern is like a splash of water. So many of my clothes are being ruined. What can I do?
Just got a Kenmore Oasis HT washer. Already know about the lower water efficiency levels….Just tried using the SHEETS and Bulky/Bedding cycles and wonder if this is the setting with the highest water levels? Any suggestions? I bought this machine to do LARGE loads, but want to make sure clothes get clean with enough water. Pls don’t tell me to get a FRONT LOADER machine, because I have already heard horror stories about mold/mildew/smell. Help???!!!!
Forgot to add…yes, read owner’s manual back and forward with no answer to my question.
Please list reasons why you personally chose to buy a water softener for your home in the order of most importance to least importance. And which brand did you choose?
Some reasons to stir up your mind: features of the water softener, the benefits to your home, cheaper than hard water, skin problems, less home cleaning, extending appliances, clothes, and so on.
All comments are great.
At first I thought it was the washer, but it seems to be the water heater. Why does the water heater leak water when I wash my clothes?
its really leaking, I have to clean it up with a towel.
We have city water, and the chemicals i swear are killing my hair. it makes it really straw like, no matter what kind or how much conditioner i use. I’ve tried everything, and even my clothes seem to be suffering. When you turn my water on, the first thing you smell is a chlorine-like smell
Will buying a water softener (those things you hook to the hot water tank) make things better?
I just purchased a new double-wide mobile home, and my water is horrible. It’s full of iron and is turning everything orange. My clothes, my toilet bowls, bath-tub, and soon my hair! So I need a water softener bad. I just don’t know what kind I need. I need one that will work for my problems, but I don’t want to spend more money than I need to. What do I need to look for in a water softener? Can someone please help (preferably someone who has had experience with this…) Thanks so much!
I do not want to throw away water i used in washing (rinsing) clothes or the dishes. But I’m afraid my plants will die if I water them with water with traces of detergent. Is there a way of treating the used water at home without the expensive mechanical water treatments? I read activated carbon can remove some, but not all chemicals from water.
