The single element sediment filter is configured with a tankless water heater and two disconnects. Is there any need for a whole house water filter?

I was at Lowes yesterday talking with the plumbing guy. He said a few things that remotely made sense, but I challenge what he said. I just want honest open opinions, and if someone knows better, please tell me.

I’m about to put new filter cartridges and a new RO (Reverse Osmosis) element. He told me there are better systems out now. OK, so I haven’t followed plumbing advances very well.

I’m thinking of putting a whole house filter BEFORE my water softener (not including the outside hose bibs). My mineral count is somewhere around 400 (had it tested a few years ago and I hope I remembered that correctly). The guy at Lowes said that my RO drinking water should also be before my water softener. Is that true? Since I’m planning on doing some work, what would be the best way to handle this?

Thanks for your help.

The guy at Lowes made some statements about ultra pure water being acidic. He said that ultra pure water will dissolve copper pipes, brass, lots of different irons and such. While I suppose that a lack of minerals in water COULD leach minerals from copper, I think he was a bit over the top. If you know, please let me know. It won’t make any difference to how I handle my drinking water situation, but it’s always nice to know something for sure.

Again, thanks.

Is fluoride an element, a mixture of elements combined, what is it?
Why is it not in most of Europe’s drinking water when it is in America’s drinking water?
I really want to understand this stuff, so thanks for answering! Please answer appropriately as well!

Why does my water stink?

I live in the country and I have a well. my water began to stink and i lost a lot of hot water so I checked out my water heater and determined that the lower element was bad and since the heater was at least ten years old I opted to get a new one. I bought a Whirlpool Gold water heater with dual anode rods, larger elements, and energy star. the heater was the most expensive 50 gallon that I saw there at 500 it has a 12 year warranty and I installed it myself. I figured that that would solve the problem but after two or three days my water began have a sulfuric smell again. I am wondering if it is my water softener it is a rented one from culligan and has been here since we got the house 9 years ago. we have had various issues with it and every time they come out spend 10 minutes charge 50 and say that it is fine. it is not consistent in putting out soft water, and uses 200-250 pounds of salt in a week to week and a half. I also have to clean a disgusting looking black sludge off of the side of th

i just replaced my hot water heater and all i’m getting is luke warm water. about three days after installation i took out both elements and looked them over the top element was completely covered in calcium deposit it looks like and the bottom one looks brand new i have replaced both and the same thing keeps happeneing i had culligan come out and look at my water softner and they said thy fixed my hard water problem. it has been 4 days since they came out and still getting quiet a bit of build up on the top element and now hot water can anyone please help. yes ive had plumbers come out they don’t know anything, i’ve had electricans come out they don’t know anything and culligan came out and charged me a bunch of money and apparently didn’t fix anything
i konw for a fact their are no air bubbles in the line, i am not on city water it is a well and i am currently puting in a filter before the water softener, and i know there are very good plumbers out there i’m just saying the 4 plumbers that have tryed to help me have said " wow this really has me stumped" thanks for everyones input so far 2 things i’m currently trying to do to resolve the problem since i know my electricity is good and my elements are good is 1 put in a inline filter before the sofner 2 set my water softener up for every day instead of every 3 days which is what the culligan guy set it up as, and 3 possibly changing the brand new elements from the ge ones they sent me to sand hog ones i here they are better any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you everyone for your input so far

It’s frikkin freezin, and the water for my shower is lukewarm. It pretty much sucks. Is there a way to adjust the temperature for water? It’s the same throughout the condo, the sinks, dishwasher, etc same temperature.
It is an electric heater, inside my own unit, not a common one for all units.
If an element is out, is that easy to replace, or do I need to call someone and is it expensive?

Why do they make water filters like Brita that remove chlorine but not fluorine, it’s only one element away on the periodic table!

Is it so much to ask?

What about dechlorinating showerheads?

(my hot/cold water is brown/green from rust/copper patina)

We are running a 125 litre hot water heater for only two people. Its 15amp and single element I think. When we had solar heating, we got into the habit of turning the booster on and off accordingly. I’m wondering now, if we are energy saving by turning the current system off during the day and only flicking it on at night for a time? Or would it work out less expensive to let the thermostat regulate a permanent hot water temperature and in so doing, be using less energy overall? Its a balancing or juggling act I know but over a period of time, which approach makes more sense as far as costing less in power? Hot water usage is generally fairly conservative too and we don’t really need the scalding temps when its on all the time, even in the middle of winter. (Thermostat not adjustable)
