Replacing a hot water dispenser?

I need to replace my hot water dispenser (the faucet part, not the heater unit) but I’m not sure about sizing. Are they all the same size as far as installation goes?

The most popular faucet filter in US (e.g. Brita, PUR) mainly use active carbon as the filtering material, which can only remove chlorine and the odor but not all the bacteria in the water. Although the tap water quality in US is very good in quality already, there still exist some bacteria and chemical which is harmful to human body. If a faucet filter can filter these harmful cyst or chemical but with a higher price, say, -, would you buy it?

I used to buy those 24-packs of Bottled Water for like per box. I’d go through 3-4 bottles a day.

My friend suggested I buy a Brita or Pur tank and just filter it using tap water. He said it’ll save money in the long run. But the filters have to replaced every 2 months, and they cost about -10 per replacement.

Which way do you use? Which one saves the most money? (And by Brita, I DONT mean the faucet extension - I’m talking about the pitcher)
btw, I live in NYC right now and lived in Miami for the last 10 years!

What’s a better water filter for a faucet, Brita, PUR, or Zero?
I’ve been buying bottled water, but we drink so much I have to buy another 24 pack each week, and it is very expensive. So I want to buy a water filter for my faucet because our tap water is horrible, which one has the best tasting water and is a reasonable price? Brita, PUR or Zero?
thanks!

I have gone through two sports bottles because of mottling stains on the bottom that can’t be removed. They range from orange to brown. They can not be scratched off and I’ve put them through the dishwasher but nothing has an effect on them.

The only liquid that has ever been used is water from the faucet (I use a PUR filter if that matters). I carry the sports bottle with me everywhere I go so I’m always drinking out of it.

A friend joked that it could be fluoride staining the bottom and it is an interesting theory but I’m a bit concerned because I’d like to know what’s causing it.

I really want to get into Recycling?!?

I’m really interested in Recycling anything I can in my home…
The onnly think I have came up with so far is, All the paper we use in our home will be put in a seperate trash bag and be taken to the new Paper Dumpsters up by our newer walmart.
We bought a PUR Water filter you put on your sink faucet to save on water bottles, since we ALWAYS bought them and this was good cause it means less Water bottles going into the Environment…
We save cans in our home also, My dad has been taking cans in as far back as I can remember…So, those dont go in the trash..
What else can I do? =)
What all do you do to recycle??

No other faucets in the house have lost pressure. I removed the Pur filter and the gaskets on the faucet thinking they were stopped up but the pressure is still very very slow.

Do I need a reverse osmosis system, or another filer, to remove higher-than-normal lead and uranium?
or can I use Pur or Brita type to *sufficiently* do the job? I have an infant, he is my world and it is my job to protect him the best way I can. So, you can imagine why the contaminants are a major concern here.
Our last house had great water quality so we have a faucet-mounted Brita… we’d love to buy a new filter and call it a day.I think Brita and the like are able to get rid of lead, but uranium?
So be brutally honest, if I have to shell out the big bucks for reverse osmosis let me know! And please, don’t just say "Move away" or "Don’t drink the water". Those aren’t options : )

I live in a rocky area, like a Native American mountain area. The uranium is not exceeding legal limits but the level is just higher than other areas. The lead is due to a shooting range near the lake we live on. Both substances in my water are above California "health guidelines" due to the lack of enforced federal guides keeping us safe, so this is what I’m going by.

I appreciate the info in advance!

Last time I posted a question, someone said something about reverse osmosis being costly to operate and wasteful of resources. I wasn’t aware how many gallons are thrown away by the process! Thanks!

Most aggressive pitcher water filter?

I’m looking for a pitcher water filter that will filter out the most contaminants possible. I was looking to purchase an Aquasana countertop filter for my apartment kitchen sink, but the ridiculous faucet/sprayer combo that’s on it won’t take a countertop filter. I don’t want to install an under-sink model, because it’s an apartment and I’m not interested in making that investment for something I move out of.

I’m skeptical of the Brita and PUR pitchers, they don’t seem to do much except improve taste. I’m not worried about taste - my water tastes fine - but our city water tests poorly (high levels of chlorine, higher levels of pharmaceuticals and medicines, high in metals).

Any suggestions? It’s hard to find unbiased review just looking through websites…

Whats wrong with my PUR filter?

Well I bought a pur filter about 3 months ago and its been working great. The light filter was still green then out of nowhere it just stopped filtering. The faucet works normally and as soon as I flip the switch the water just stops and doesnt come out either side. Nor does the green light blink as it usually does. Do I need to change the filter even though the light is still green? Im having trouble unscrewing the cap so I would have to go buy one of those wrenches. Is there an easier fix?

(Los Angeles) Every now and then, the water in my brita water filter turns green at the bottom. I’ve cleaned the filter many times and changed the filter itself. Is my filter growing algae or something or is the filter not catching something coming out of my faucet?!!

This is the second time it’s happened and I have not exceeded the lifespan of both filters. Is this green stuff going to cause me to get sick? I may have drank a cup or two without noticing.

this issue has the ratings and such I need. I just want to ask some questions about which water filters of various types are best. I’m so tired of taking empty bottles to the store, refilling them, and bringing them back home. Mom refuses to buy a water filter w/o knowing the best kind in our price range. We rent an apartment and I don’t know if we can have a whole house system or even if we could afford one. But perhaps the kind you mount on the faucet? See, I just dunno. If you’re willing to help me with the info, please reply!
Thanks so much!
