I currently use a Culligan pitcher filter and I want to switch to Brita. Brita filter cartridge looks pretty similar to Culligan cartridge but I don’t know if I can just replace the cartridge without buying a new pitcher too.
Has anyone ever try this?
i just wanted to know how to clean it and if i just pour water through the filter cartridge or if i have to replace it with the new one
and how often im i suppose to change it
its a 2.5 gallon tank
thanx
I keep adding chemicals but the water is still cluody, cover fell in so water was green to start. replaced filter cartridge this week and pump last year. any ideas to help. Local pool store tests water and says to keep adding chemicals
I also have a 20 regular and a 20 long fish tank but the 10 gallon is the only one thats giving me these nasty tiny black worms that weaved themselves inside the fish tank filter cartridge. Yuck! I never had this problem but unfortunatly I just got to cleaning my fish tank today after 4 months Im wondering if theres a link between the tanks dirty unchanged water Can someone please help or give any suggestions.
I often read people saying do not change the filter cartridge, and just to rinse it out with old water? But what if its the kind that you buy that comes with many filter cartridges? You know the ones that hang on the back and you just slide the new cartridges in or out..I hope that makes sense. Weren’t these types of filters made to have the cartridges replaced?
Any advice? Thank you!!!
=)
I have a small aquatic turtle, (he looks like a RES, but without the red marks, not sure what he is.) about a 5 inch shell measurement.
Even keeping up with frequent water and filter cartridge changes, I’m still getting a large buildup of algae, mostly on the edges of his basking rock, and on the turtle’s shell.
I use filtered tap water, and the only chemicals I add are one to remove chlorine, and one to help with waste breakdown. My filter is a regular aquarium filter, rated for 60 gallons. (the tank is a 20 gallon long) I’ve read that the algae destroyers you would use in a regular aquarium could be harmful to turtles, so I’m hesitant to try that. I’ve put a few plants in the tank, but he tends to uproot them and eat them.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to slow the growth of algae in the tank?
I just need to know how often to change the filter cartridge. I know not to remove the carbon part of the filter. I have a filter that uses two cartridges at a time and therefore has two streams of water coming out from it. I have heard that you need to change it every month but I was just looking for a definite answer. will pick best answer.
sorry I don’t think I mean carbon, I am talking about the sponge looking thing that is made of black stringy material.
I just got my name from a Devin the Dude song. its classic.
You may be helping a lot of people to save money and keep healthy by answering and share your experience using Brita filters.
I found that Brita Filter replacement cartridges and similar products are extremely expensive. Not mention if you have to pay for the water+sewage as well in your monthly utility bill.
1. Is it good for pregnant woman to drink water filtered by brita instead of buying bottled/distilled water?
2. Is brita filter cartridge contains only activated carbon, what are the white/cream particles inside?
3. Is it easy to regenerate just by boiling it, or you have to reactivate the carbon by baking or burning it?
4. Can you replace the carbon with regular activated carbon (with the same particle size)?
I just changed the water yesterday and rinsed my filter cartridge and put a bag of ChemPure product, which contains activated carbon and other ingredients, into filter canister. When I got up this morning, I found the entire tank water get grayish. It seems the carbon was dissolved into water or the tiny particles were rinsed off the carbon. Do I need to replace the water again or I can wait for it to clear up later.
I am looking at getting a five gallon fish tank and I have it narrowed down between two tanks. One has a three-stage filtration system and the other has a power filter with filter cartridge. Here are the websites if you want to take a look.

Which one do you think I should buy? I don’t know much about different kinds of fish tanks so I am just going to buy whatever you guys recommend. Thanks
I have a fish tank with a filter, do I change the water at all? I cant find anything about this. If I am supposed to, how often?
Also, how often do I need to change the filter cartridge?
Thank you

Sorry :[ I couldn’t fit the whole question in.
Ok so people have been saying that you can’t change the filter cartridge and do a water change at the same time. And I’m pretty sure its concerning the bacteria and all that. So anyway, when the time has come to change a filter cartridge (about 3 or 4 weeks after the last one), should you do it like 3 days after a water change since you can’t do it at the same time? Oh by the way, I do water changes once a week.
Ok thanks guys!!!
I just bought a new 18 Gallon tank for my Fantails. Anyway when I rinse the filter cartridge, it looks like black stuff is coming out of it, and turning the water black that falls from it. Is this normal, it looks like it is the pebbles in this bag causing it. I have been rinsing it for about an hour now, and black stuff is still coming out of it, and I don’t want to take the chance of putting it inside the tank until I am sure it is OK. Someone please help soon, as my fish need their filter.
Thanks!
