…water output no longer filtered?
I use the PUR filters in my refrigerator and on my kitchen tap for water. The indicator lights will change from green to red in 45-60 days after a filter replacement, but the water will keep flowing for another 60-90 days before the filter completely clogs up, and then I have to replace the filter. During the period when the light is red, is the water still being purified? My guess is that it is.

I use a similar filter system when I go hiking, and the instruction manual states that the filter will only output clean filtered water and can be used up until it is completely clogged. But the data on the home filters only say to replace the filter immediately after the light goes red. I think they just want to sell more filters.

Is this water okay for my cat to drink?

I have this kind of water filter on my kitchen sink:
http://pur.spex.channelintelligence.com/StoreFront.aspx?offid=6&org=pg&mdl=723987005393&rule=2024&ciitem=14900448

There is a switch to change it from tap water to the filtered water. Is this okay for my cat(the filtered water)? Or should I give him bottled water? Thanks!

It has a 4 year warranty, but I think I threw out the papers! I would really like it fixed and cannot find any info on the web. The digital light/ gallons filtered reading no longer lights up. I only used about 20 gallons of filtered water with this unit, so I’m dissappointed. Anyone have experience in fixing this type of unit?

Question about water for babies formula…?

I have been using nursery water to mix my babies formula. He is now 4.5 months old. We have a pur water filter on our sink. Is it ok at this point to begin using filtered water, or must we continue with the nursery water?

Spring water flows from the ground like 24/7 and so does an artesian well.

So I’m confused about why it’s different.
Are they both healthier to drink than regular filtered water? Or bottled water? :)

Do most water filters filter out flouride?

If so, why? I’ve been using a Pur water filter for a few years. I’ve never had a cavity in life, but the other day when I was at the dentist, he said that I have an area of decay in my mouth that could lead to cavities. I have to get the teeth bonded. I’ve always taken good care of my teeth - the only thing that’s changed is I’ve been drinking filtered water. I drink a lot of water, so this could have an impact if there is no flouride in the filtered water. Why is it supposed to be harmful, or do they just do it for the taste? I know there is a link to infertility and large amounts of flouride though I think infertility could be a good thing in our society. Anyway, could that make a difference, if flouride is filtered out?

I have a MultiPure under the sink filter system that had a new filter replaced a year ago. The filter is supposed to last through about 750 gallons of water (or something around there). Either way, I have used it for less than half that amount in the past year. The manufacturer says to replace the filter yearly, but they are expensive considering I don’t use that much filtered water. (It was installed by the previous owners.)

Is it still safe to use filtered water through the existing filter until I really need to change it? Will it cause any harm?

Thanks for any help.

Acai Juice?

I’m looking for a site that has ratings for different Acai Juices.

Monavie will not disclose the amount of Acai in it’s product. Other non-mlm producers will. Monavie must have something to hide.

I know that VitaminLife.com has:
NOW Acai Concentrate for .59/32oz.

Ingedients: Acai Juice, Triple Filtered Water,Blueberry Juice Concentrate, Raspberry Juice Concentrate,Pomegranate Juice Concentrate, Citric Acid, Natural Flavor and Potassium Sorbate (as a preservative).
NOW® Acai Juice has a refreshing berry taste, offering 6,500 mg of Acai concentrate per 1 oz. serving.

and

Acai100 by Genesis Today for .89/32oz.
100% PURE wild harvested ACAI Berry Juice! No added fruit juices, sweeteners, sugars, preservatives, water or anything!
30,000 mg of pure Acai Berry Juice in every 1 fl. oz. serving

These are a few of the products I’m considering although I am still looking for a site that compares and rates all the different Acai Juices. If you find this info please post it here
********Update********
I have finished my research and decided against the above products. The Acai 100 is made from the skin, pulp and pit of the berry. The pit has no nutritive value and comprises over 90% of the Acai Berry. This means that over 90% of Acai100 is from the pit and has no value. The Acai juice from NOW is made from freeze dried skin and pulp, but it is blended with other juices. It has more Acai than Monavie, which also uses the pit, but it is not what I am looking for. There is no juice on the market that suits my needs, i.e. 100% Acai made from only the skin and pulp of the berry. I have concluded that a powder made from the freeze-dried puree of the skin and pulp is the only acceptable product . There are many powders available but my research has shown that only one product meets my criteria and is available at a reasonable price. There is a link to their website here: www.herod.biz
After buying some, I find that it has everything I’m looking for.
Thanks……Mike

Is Breastfeeding always better?

I am a healthy living guy, eat organic food, filter water, eat natural foods, hate diet chemical drinks, trans fats, msg, canned foods lines with BPA and so on and so on. Now why would I let my baby be breastfed by a mother who eats all of these things when I can give her Hipp Organic milk with filtered water. My GF did really well during pregnancy giving up smoking, drinking, eating fresh fruit, veg, and everything else I insisted on such as pure fish oils. As soon as pregnancy was over, she told me she couldnt keep it up. My question is did I do the right thing? I dont believe any intelligence difference can be proved to be just breast feeding, as the experiments are flawed. i.e A mother who breastfeeds is more likely to be more intelligent and therefore have a more intelligent baby. Also there is no proof that and IQ gap lasts into adulthood, as that is more dependant on good genes and education. i.e if your parents have a high IQ, You will have a high one regardless. So why really should I expose my baby to chemicals if I dont have to?
Incidentally I have added fish oil to the bottles, as Hipp dont have marine based DHA fats.
Dyot! ,
It is you who have not read my question. Just because experiments have proved better intelligence does not mean its down to breast feeding. of course breast feeding is better with a healthy diet, and so the mum who breastfeeds, is more likely to be educated, and more intelligent. Unless you can isolate the factors that made that kid intelligent, it doesnt mean that much. To the 1st person who called me a troll : - you have obviously not read my question. I asked is it always best taking into account a bad diet. Plse dont put stupid comments down. Its a good question and I would have loved my GF to breast feed if she didnt smoke.
All other comments very good. Obviously I want the best for my baby, and adding a little fish oil, was taking a little risk, but I was trying to make up at least a little after research into DHA
Dyot, Although that experiment included Thirteen potential confounders including smoking, there are so many possible factors that could go to make intelligence. Did any of the mothers eat good fats bad fats, drink, drink caffeine, take vitamins, eat carrots, have organic formular with added DHA….have mercury fillings, get the picture? It would be impossible to say what combinations make a minimal improvement in intelligence. Good Genes obviously have a far bigger impact. U havent really understood my question as well as some of the others. I was asking mostly about exposure to chemicals and did the advantages of breastfeeding outweight organic bottle food with added DHA. Granted I can see why u have answered me that way, but u would fail certainly our HSBC verbal reasoning test by not answering the question. Is it always better, taking into account the chemicals my girlfriend absorbs in her body. There are probably bottle fed people here who have understood the question correctly.

My husband would prefer NOT to have a separate faucet line for filtered water, so we would need an in-line drinking water filter for our kitchen sink. He would also prefer NOT to have to depend on a plumber to install it.

Temporary water filters for kitchen sink?

My university accomodation has no filtered water (i.e. with fluoride removed)… Since it is their property I can’t get a plumber to play around with the pipes and install a filter. So is there something - like a cap - that I can wrap around the tap head, to trap the added chemicals? How big would this cap be? (I will be sharing the water source with others and I don’t want a big chunk contraption hovering over the sink)

Any other tips appreciated

gallons of filtered water is used for back washing.

I went shopping with some friends.

They bought bottled water and I joked with them about how they don’t drink from the tap.

They basically said the bottled water is cleaner and different from the tap…so they drink from the bottled water most of the time and the sink every once in a while. (They use Brita with the sink, though).

So then I try to convince them that the Brita filtered water is the same crap as what’s in the bottles, and they believe me.

SO, I offer the idea of getting a stainless steel water bottle so they can take it to class with them (they got bottles so they can carry it to school) and I was like, "the bottle will last 1000 years so you never have to waste your money on the bottled water."

Know what they said? "Oh, but I don’t need something to last that long."

Look, the only two companies that have pure filtered water are Dasani and Aquafina. Dasani is reverse osmosis filtered water with minerals added, but Aquafina is reverse osmosis filtered with nothing added. (They didn’t understand reverse osmosis or the idea of added minerals).

Is it wrong for me to be bothered that the general population thinks just like they do and is wasting oil for these dang bottles of water?
