When to replace filter when treating ick?

Ok. I’ve been treating my 5 calling tank for about 48 hours treatment every 24 hours removed the filter at begin of treatment and did 20% water change. Increased water temperate. Just wondering how long to wait to replace filter? My water is pretty cloudy. Fish are eating well. Swimming well seem to be doing better. Just not sure when to replace filter cartridge and how ongoing to keep giving treatment? Till spots Ar gone?

Filter for a 60 gallon tank?

I have a 60 gallon tank outside. I’m looking for a filter that can be put on the left side of my tank(not underneath it like a rena filstar xp3), keeps the water crystal clear, easy to maintain and optionally with a UV sterilizer/filter. Any suggestions?
thanks Scott S
@Mal…it’s outside UNDER the patio and I COVERED it from sunlight, most of the sides. It’s outside because originally, it was for my turtles and I was able to clean it often to rid of algae but now i want fish in it… My tank gets sunlight for about 2-4 hours depending on clear skies. And, why the hell would I put it where rain can get in and why in a garage….?

How can I have clear water in my pond?

I recently moved into a new house and there was a pond in the garden. The water was very green with goldfish in it. I could only see them when they came up to eat.
They are water lilies and other aquatic plants.
I have bought a pump with filter, biologic filters and UV lamp. Now the water isn’t green any more and I can see the fish when they are near the surface but the water is still cloudy and I can’t see them any more when they dive. It has a grey colour and it looks like there is a lot of durt in it. I have tried to change the water: I used the pump to put water in the drain and replace it with clear water.
It is still the same.
I don’t think that the pump and filters are doing anything now, as for the last 10 days I haven’t had to clean the filters: the water flows normally out of the fountain.
What can I do to get clear water?!!
Thanks.
Nikki

we just bought 55 gallon freshwater tank and put our fish in it after water temp was good, and 4 of our 6 fish died. The tank smells horrible. We reused rocks that were in the bottom of tank before, but didnt strain them.Or maybe we added salt from water softner from bathtub??help?
We used water that came from a water softener. but also used some of the water from the original tank they were in. The tank does have a bad strong smell that is believed to be ammonia smell we have read about. The fish before dieing kept going to the top of the water and then back down? We have transported fish to different tanks with no problems and this time our four smaller fish died within half hour. Only other fish in there are placo’s. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is municipal water in Japan fluoridated?

Do they use significant amounts of seaweed or sea salt in diet?
Is their iodine level better than it is in USA people?
They eat significantly more fish?

Which factors are true?

How long can you keep the carbon filter out?

My fish have a case of fungus. I’m treating it right now with drop in tablets. To use these tablets you have to take out the carbon filter, I assume so the carbon filter doesn’t filter out the meds.

It says to give the meds 4 days to work, and if the fungus isn’t completely gone to do a 20-25% water change and add another dose.

I plan on doing a second dose. One reason being just so i’m sure it worked, and second i’ve read a few places that people do a minimum treatment of 7 days.

My question is, is it safe to have the carbon filter out for that long? A probable 8 days. Should I put it back in for a day or two between the two fungus treatments. Or would that extract any left over medication from the first dose, even with in between water change, that needs to be there to help the second dose?

Water dispersion in DIY trickle filter?

I made a trickle filter for additional bio filtration recently….I used a plastic container…drilled a hole in the lid….vinyl tube feeding in through the top siphons the water into the container….

If you have experience with trickle filters yourself or you know the answer anyway and can suggest something, the question is this:

I’m trying to get complete dispersion, like a spray…inside the container to fully utilize the media…as it stands now….with a single unmodified tube feed….it’s a single stream of water that makes contact with only the center portion of the media…

Any ideas what I can attach to the tube or how I can modify or what I can install in the container to accomplish this?

I looked through multiple hardware stores and didn’t see anything I thought would do the job.

Much thanks….
*looking down at the zero responses* lol

Yes, this is…believe it or not…a fish related question….

I am converting my 55 gallon freshwater to saltwater. I am only going to do about 8 smaller fish and a little live rock. I know live rock helps as a filter, but I am wondering what to use. Should I go with an undergravel filter with a couple powerheads or a strong hang-on filter? If I choose either one, what kind of power should be looking for in the powerheads or hang-on filter in terms of gph? Also looking for any good reference sites for saltwater aquariums.

I plan on plants and fish and my new florescent lighting fixture says it shouldn’t be placed over open water.. Will sitting it on a glass top filter out the light that is important for the plants? What does everyone else do to make sure the light doesn’t come in contact with the water?
