its a 10 gallon tank with 4 guppies, 4 neon tetras and 2 [VERY HORNY] ivory snails. i put a new filter cartridge and then cleaned the plants, ornaments, and gravel. i stirred up the gravel and replaced 3 gallons. i remember a year ago when i first got the tank the pet store worker said to never do a water change when you add a new filter cartridge. will my fish be okay?

I have no idea why I put the word the in my question. Sorry
So it’s ok to leave the filter running but remove the cartridge then.
I am treating Ick. It’s on all my fish. 6 died already and only 5 are left. It sucks

I know that usually a tank has to be set up for three days before you can put in goldfish but how much longer than that should I wait if I accidentally added five times the amount of tap water conditioner.
I haven’t bought the fish yet

I drinking water more than I drink food but when I eat, I’m mostly eating fried food which are mostly potatoes. I am not over-weight either. I’m actually only 86 lbs,19 years old and just under 5ft tall. I’ve been eating fish these last two days but right now I am eating 2 fried hash browns and ketchup. I really don’t want to chance having a heart attack and dying at a young age.

I have a snail, two fire bellied newts, and two African dwarf frogs. Do all of these creatures need filtered water? I have NO fish.
(Note: I have this question under fish because it’s a tank related question and they don’t have a category for amphibians…)
If the amphibians need filtered water, how come larger frogs don’t use filters? I’ve seen larger frogs in tanks with low water level and no filter.

As i understand it, what we like to call fresh water contains a high amount of oxygen molecules. I´ve been told that these disappear rapidly when the water reaches its boiling point. What kind of effect does a high amount of oxygen molecules leave on water?
I mean, can you taste the freshness of water? Freshness in terms of the amount of O2 in in. Or is it only fish that will suffer abcence of O2?

I have had an under gravel filter for a while, but have been convinced through reading posts that a filter along the lines of a fluval underwater is superior. I would like to use my new filter, but do not want to risk my fish by disturbing them too much. Please can anyone give me some advice on the change over. Would I need to use the two filters togther for a while?

Follow up to a previous question. If I don’t use aquarium salt how do I a make the water softer and the ph lower? The water where I live is very hard and I heard that the chemicals to lower ph are toxic to fish and can make them sick. I thought about using spring water in my tank but that could become costly in the long run.

I have been using tap water that i have let sit for about a week to do water changes with and my fish still die. Am I using the right water or should i not let the tap water sit for a while? Also I use a dechlorifier. What do I do a water change with?
Here are some details, its a 20 gallon tank, i have 2 swordtail (1 male 1 female) and a loach. The pH looked somewhat high about 2 days ago but after using some chemicals it went to about neutral or slightly above. I have an undergravel filter and i try to do weekly water changes. I just wanted to know if it was acceptable to let the water sit for a while and naturally dechlorinate or if it was better to just take tap and use a dechlorifyer. How do you get the temperature to be the same though without using hot water? Thanks.
