Does Dasani water have chlorine in it?
Is it safe to use it for my goldfish?
Is it safe to use it for my goldfish?
I have goldfish and I need to use bottled water to fill the tank because I have unacceptable well water. My dad tried to chemically treat it, but we don’t use it to brush our teeth or cook! We just use bottled water at my house for everything.
We recently got a 2.5 gallon filtered fish tank from a friend and have 4 goldfish in it. The first day the water is perfectly clear, however, by the second day it is cloudy. No algae, just cloudy water. I have purchased a new "discard-a-stone" and am using the clouride drops for tap water. I have not used any soap to wash it, and there are no live plants in it.
Any suggestions?
I need serious help. I set up a 46 gallon aquarium at the beginning of June and can’t get it to cycle. Unfortunately, I have listened to advice from 3 different pet shops, and all 3 had different answers. I initially ran the aquarium for a week, then my local pet shop told me to add bacteria and 2 goldfish, which I did. Of course the ammonia climbed, as it should have, so next, 2 pet stores told me I had to perform frequent water changes, preferably some every day, which I did-about 2 gallons every morning, which kept the ammonia at about .5 ppm. Fish stressing from ammonia. I kept this up until a couple weeks ago. I had a Tetra Whisper filter and could not figure out how the bacteria filter would grow in that setup. The NEXT pet store told me the filter was no good, so I switched to an Aqua Pure three-stage filter which includes sponge material for the bacterial colony. They said my frequent water changes were keeping the aquarium from cycling and that I should stop it until cycling had occured. They also suggested I add Bio-zyme every day for a week, which I did per the instructions. They told me it would cycle the aquarium in a week. Nope, still no cycling occuring. Ammonia has been at 1.0 ppm for a week now and I am afraid I am going to lose both my fish. What the heck am I doing wrong?? Where should I go from here?
In response to the first answer-has the bacteria had long enough to grow, since I switched filters a week ago? Or does it exist on all surfaces, not just the filter?
we have a 40 gallon tank with 4 goldfish 3 fancy 1 regular. Cant seem to get the tank clear again.
I have this goldfish and I heard you should put them in distilled water when you change their water. He’s in a pitcher right now, but that’s just temporary because i don’t have a tank yet. But how much time should i let water sit befor it is safely distilled?
I have 2 goldfish and I’m wondering if the sound of the water dripping into their tank from the water filter bothers them and if I should turn it of once in a while.
Also I would like to know why every time I change 75% of the water in the tank, I get a bacterial bloom?
We have 2 goldfish in a 40 x 20 cm tank. They were recently brought home by my daughter who won them at a fair. One is long finned, the other is your plain, everyday goldfish. Both are quite small (about 4-5 cm in length). We’ve decked out their tank with various pebbles, shells and stones to make it interesting for them, but it’s not a proper tank with filters etc. so it gets pretty smelly quite quickly and needs water changes very often.
We have a kind of shallow well in the garden, not very deep, about 2 metres from top ground level to water surface, with about 1 metre of pure, clear, underground,up-filtering water constantly present. At the moment it’s inhabited by 2 frogs which fell in there about 3 years ago and have now grown quite large and seem happy in their environment. They obviously survive on mosquito larvea and other water borne life to have survived and grown this long.
Can I add my goldfish in there or could they be indangered by the frogs? And do we need to feed them
Exactly CBohio….that’s what I want to put right!…to give them a better quality of life!
I have had a goldfish, which lives in a bowl, for about 6 weeks. When I got the goldfish, the clerk at the pet store told me to take out 25% of the water each week, and replace it with clean water that has been treated with water conditioner. I have been doing this, and the water has stayed clear.
The problem is that there is a bunch of fish poop at the bottom of the bowl. It looks really gross.
I want to change all of the water in the bowl, but I am afraid that it will hurt the fish. The clerk at the pet store told me that the fish needs the bacteria in the water and I should not change all of the water at once. What do you think? Does anyone change all of the water regulary? Does it have any negative affects on the fish?
I am looking at getting a five gallon fish tank and I have it narrowed down between two tanks. One has a three-stage filtration system and the other has a power filter with filter cartridge. Here are the websites if you want to take a look.

Which one do you think I should buy? I don’t know much about different kinds of fish tanks so I am just going to buy whatever you guys recommend. Thanks
Ok so i have a goldfish and i was wondering how often should i clean the water?
So I went to Petco and I bought 1 gallon tank. I currently have 6 goldfish. The tank came with an undergravel filter, airpump, the goldfish have pure water (drinking water) it came with a light and gravel. Also, I am not overfeeding them.
i have a 35l tank with 2 goldfish and 5 minnows in it. my 3 year old has put shower gel onto the filter sponge i have cleened it off in hot water but the tank now smells of shower gell and the goldfish seem to be suffering the most their dorsol fins are down and one is sitting at the bottom of the tank. i have done a 50% water change.
Does filtered water take out all the minerals essential for Goldfish?
