I recently stopped drinking bottled water and purchased a brita pitcher a week ago. The first few times, the water tasted fine, but today I poured a glass and the water tasted bad. I emptied it out and put some new water in it, and it tastes fine again, but what could be the cause for the bad tasting water?

I don’t think I had any for the past two days, could that be the reason? If not, what else could be the cause, and how can I prevent it from happening in the future?
I’m in college, and the only thing I have in there is bottled iced tea, milk, and pop/soda

Its a new water filter pitcher, that has 4 bottles attached to it, so you can just take the reusable bottles out with filtered watered. Does anyone know the name of this product/brand that makes it?

We just purchased a new house and it has a new water softener in it. I had heard once that when you have a water softener, you don’t have to use as much laundry detergent as is recommended in the washing machine . Has anyone else ever heard this or do you do this?

I have PUR water filter installed on my faucet. The previous owners left me one but then one day it broke. A small crack developed and a tiny stream of water sprayed out of it, soaking me or my kitchen counter or floor, depending on where the faucet was aimed. So I bought another, then another, and then some more after that. They usually last for about one and a half filters before cracking. Then the cracks grow. I extended the life of one purifier with some hose clamps to force the cracks closed, until new cracks developed.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Am I doing something wrong when I install these things? Or when I change filters?

Is something in my water destroying the filters?

I don’t think my water is exceptionally hard. I live just outside of Boston. Last year we broke an giant water main and had to boil water for a week. Maybe that was caused by the same secret ingredient that corrodes the plastic housing of my water filters?

Bonus question: I pay about for each new water filter system. I read on the web that I should get about 40 gallons of water per filter, so if that’s true I’m still paying less than I would for bottled water, but the web site looked like it was planted by the PUR people. Any idea how many gallons you really get per filter?

I recently had a Culligan System put into a house I bought to treat 6ppm Iron. This has worked for the Cold Water..but my Hot water still Stinks! I called RotoRooter and they told me I needed a new Water heater, and too confirm that they would charge a 195$ fee. The previous home owner replaced the Magnesium Rod with an Aluminum one. The water heater looks new. Could I get away with giving it a good flush? I have been using the heater with softened/deironized water for a week now and it still has not diluted in odor which I thought would happen after a while. Help!!!!!
Cold Water tested today negative for Sulfur. Unless theres Sulfur in Water heater from before water was treated.

I have a ten gallon tank with three balloon mollies in it. I was wondering how often I should change the water (and how much I should change when I do)? Should I ever do a complete water change? Also, when I change the water what should I put into the new water, just de-chlorinator or should I also add cycle and some aquarium salt?

We recently replaced the anode rod which was just about gone, by the way with an aluminum one. We have a fairly new water softener due to having well water and also have a Culligan whole house water filtration unit. After replacing the anode rod, we ran the monthly bleach through the whole house water filtration unit. Now the hot water smells like eggs.

My parents forgot to buy new water softer salt 2 weeks ago and they finally got it, so it’ll take a few more days until its back up and running, but meanwhile, my hair feels greasy. i know it isn’t because it doesnt look greasy, but i absolutely HATE the feeling.

so are thee any fixes for it? i mean easy things to do at home temporarily until the softener salt is back to normal? thanks!

I need to buy a new water heater and it has to be electric. The way I am reading the requirements to be eligible for a tax credit, the electric water heater has to have an Energy Factor of 2.0 or greater. I’m not finding any electric water heaters with an Energy Factor above 0.98 though. Any specific brands and model numbers of a qualifying electric water heater will be greatly appreciated.

The softener installer said it was designed for blocks, I had another water guy say it was okay to use pellets. Now a new water guy says no it has to be blocks. I am confused.

I have had both of my parakeets for about 5 years and I have had the same food and water dish for that long. )I can not currently afford new water dishes at the moment but I will be buying some soon.) But in the water dish it has a dark brown stain in the corners all the way across. I give my birds fresh food and water everyday, maybe bird food 2 or 3 days a week depending on how much they eat and water everyday that I can. Would you know any tips on how to clean them and disinfect them?
