Is there a device like Brita that filters calcium and softens water?
Brita still leaves much visible white particles in my filtered water from Riverside, CA.

My pond has a biological filter and I just bought a UV clarifier. The UV clarifier manual asks to protect it by putting some filtration to its upstream to remove particles from the water first. My pond pump is not provided with any filter. Any thoughts?
I dont want to use bottled water anymore but Im a bit hesitant towards drinking from the tap. And I know most bottled water usually probably comes from the tap but when I Put tap water in a cup it seems like theres little particles of things floating aound in it- Not big things, but you can see it.
But I was wondering, If I heat the tap water in the microwave do you think it would disenfect the ‘ bad stuff’ lol. Or would the heat and the moisture attract bacteria? Welllll, Thanks.
I collected some clear, transparent spring water and boiled it in a stainless steel kettle. After boiling, I see white particles floating in the water? What is it?
Are the white particles/minerals in the water safe to consume? Thank you.
I’m using a water filter for drinking which consist of a four stage catridge: activated carbon, silica sand, zeolite and mineral sand. Lately, I notice very small particles sentiment at the bottom of the mineral pot where the filtered water is stored. I believe this is from the filter catridge as there are large pores where the particles may pass through. Does this render the water unsafe for consumption?
I know the best water filter would be one that filters the entire house, but I live in an apartment and would like to know the beset water filter that you can install. I’d really like one that filters out pathogens and other small particles…are there any that do this for a shower head? Or is filtering chlorine the best you can do?
I was wondering if this water bottle can filter out dirt and bacteria particles. Also, is it better than the Katadyn MyBottle Water Purifier?
– And, has anyone had good results with this product?
I saw black and brown particles. I know the black particles is the charcoal but what about brown particles?
I have to make a water filter only using things from the kitchen. Will burnt toast particles work the same as charcoal filters if I put it in my design? Also will rice or oregano work as a possible filtration method? Any other inputs would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I cant use any electronics
The suggestion first came from a friend of a friend who is a chemist. So I’m allowing the possibility of some theoretical truth, but in practice – is it a safe and viable solution to overpriced replacement cartridges?
I should have added, audioworld, that the idea is to completely flush the saline electrolyte solution along with all the released particles….
I understand it’s pretty much just filtered poo, right? What kinds of horrible things make it through to your tap? Chlorine? Bacteria? Fecal particles? Other stuff?
And which of these things do home water filters remove?
How do those things end up in your water?
So we just bought a new fridge and hooked up the water line, I noticed in the water that there are little white particles floating in the water. Does anyone know what the cause of this is?
I bought a PUR water filter pitcher on Amazon. It came today and I pouring water in it and saw that the filter is leaking these small black particles. I researched a bit and found out that it’s called active carbon, my question is is it suppose to fall out? Or should I get a refund?
We recently bought a water filter you install on the sink and it filters the drinking water. I wonder, sometimes the water has little blackk particles on it even though its been used many times. I gather its the carbon? Is it dangerous if we continue to drink it? It smells much better than our normal water and has been working but Im worried about those black things.
So I have a 75 gallon tank, I’m running an eheim 2215 and a emperor 400. I keep up maintenance on both filters regularly. I’m pretty displeased with the emperor 400, I have a bunch of small particles in the water coming from that filter. I’m just looking to replace it with another canister, a canister just for pure mechanical and chemical filtration. I was looking at the eheim 2213, what are some other good ones?
