Does anyone know how to build a water purification system using really simple or cheap things? A system that can remove odor, taste and other particles in order to make the water drinkable? Help would be really appreciated. Thank you.
It’s for a chemistry project in school. So i have to do it from home, and if i do buy anything, it has to be under 10 dollars.

we have 60m of professionally installed purple sub-surface irirgation piping. we are in Perth and our soil is basically pure sand 15m above the watertable. the piping seemed to become clogged with soil within around 6 months with the result that it no longer works and the pump is just continually cycling the water around the piping loop with hardly any dripping out into the soil.
is this a common experince?
if so it seems that the piping is not really fit for purpose.
our experince would certainly not encourgae anyone to adopt a professional grey water system. very disappinted and want to ask for our money back (,500) or ask the installer to replace the pipe with one that doesn’t clog. the grey water system has a 2 filter system (micro and macro) and we clean these regularly so the problem is not it seems that particles/lint in the grey water are clogging the system
help

You may be helping a lot of people to save money and keep healthy by answering and share your experience using Brita filters.

I found that Brita Filter replacement cartridges and similar products are extremely expensive. Not mention if you have to pay for the water+sewage as well in your monthly utility bill.

1. Is it good for pregnant woman to drink water filtered by brita instead of buying bottled/distilled water?
2. Is brita filter cartridge contains only activated carbon, what are the white/cream particles inside?
3. Is it easy to regenerate just by boiling it, or you have to reactivate the carbon by baking or burning it?
4. Can you replace the carbon with regular activated carbon (with the same particle size)?

I have a 90 gallon tank. Here is my current filter setup:

Emperor 400, converted to all bio filtration using 1.5 liters of matrix bio media, a fistfull of pillow stuffing as pre-filter, and 2 air stones under the matrix.

Magnum 350 Canster, with 2/3 matrix and 1/3 carbon in a media cage, wrapped up with pure-flo 50 micron cloth, a standard rite-size pad, and then surrounded with pillow stuffing.

2 large sponge filters (the glass tube / blue sponge kind) hooked up to an air pump.

My current setup is great for bio filtration, but I’m not getting enough particle matter out of the tank. I can see thousands of little particles floating around in the water.

I’d like to switch to the paper filter for the magnum, but I bet there will not be enough bio filtration.

I was considering buying a used magnum hot 250 with a paper filter in it.

Any suggestions for diatom / paper filters / solutions to reduce particle matter in the tank?

Ok, I have even tried freezing bottled water in a clean ice cube tray and then letting the cubes melt in a clean glass of room temp bottled water and there is still white particles floating around in the water. I have also frozen a sealed unopened bottle of water and found there to be particles floating in it after its melted. I haven’t tried distilled water yet but I think I’m almost curious enough too until I find out what that white stuff in my tap and bottled ice water is.

I know the particles aren’t harmless, but they’re not supposed to get into the jug where I pour my water from.

What’s causing this? Sign that I need a new filter maybe? It’s been happening since I put it in 2 months ago though.

Anything I can do?

What is the best type of kitchen water filter?

Filter of the highest quality that cleans out ALL of the potentially hazardous chemicals and particles found in raw faucet water. I want to drink the water without worrying that I might get cancer in 10 years.

So once again, the highest quality water filter that is available on the market, preferably with a fixed filter (so one doesn’t have to change it all the time).

Thanks a lot!

Water filters and the taste of water?

Will a good water filter help improve the flavor of water or will it just get rid of unwanted particles, etc?
