I live in Central TX where it rarely freezes. When it does, I have heard that water needs to be dripping from a faucet to avoid the pipes freezing. My mom told me that she heard it didnt need to be done. Any suggestions? To drip or not to drip? Do outside faucets need to be covered?

Looks as if (it has happened before) the pipes that face the backyard in my basement may have frozen. I dont know how to keep this from reocurring, but one plumber has replaced 2 kitchen faucets before, when the pipes froze. He told me the faucet cracked from beneath. I once waited till the weather warmed up again and saw my previously non-working faucet work again afterward. What can I do besides call a plumber? Is there no other solution?

there is a water shutoff but that’s outside in front of my house. I have two pipes going into the water heater.
Oh by the way it’s a townhouse so is there any other place the water comes in?

We have to wait for a long time to get hot water from the faucets, during winter, coz of water filled in the pipes getting cold. Is there any way we can maintain the temperature on pipes or any special kind of pipes available in the market? It is irritating me to wait for really…really…long time.

Trentatron water softner in an apartment?

I live in a regular apartment where you cannot located pipes easily, leave alone modifying them. Is it possible to use Trentatron water softner in an apartment? I am thinking of attaching these units to somewhere over the boiler inlet or maybe on the shower header? I badly need a water softening system.

We have a Culligan water system only a couple years old. There are 2 pipes that go down into the drain behind the softener, 1 one them is way down so you can’t see when it drains. The other pipe is slanted that water flows through, but you can see the end of it, so you could actually move it from side to side if you needed to. That is the pipe that is continuously draining water, we can hear it, so it’s not a lot, enough to hear it though. Any suggestions on what this is and where it’s coming from. I done a regeneration on it last night, thinking it was the overflow, but it’s still happening today. Never noticed it before, but it could have been like that and actually normal.

I was recently fixing a leaky faucet and saw conflicting advice to turn on the top faucet of a house to drain the house. I’ve also seen where they say to drain to bottom faucet of a house and a third option saying to drain both the top and bottom faucet at the same time. Which one is correct?

Also I never found anything saying what order I should turn the water back on so that I don’t have undue pressure to my pipes when turning on faucets.

Or is all of this just a moot point? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My brother-in-law told me I should let my faucets drip since the weather is getting so cold now (9 degrees). I’m concerned if this will put too much strain on the pressure bladder, well pump or water softener. My pipes are in the attic because I am on a slab house. Our well is 70 feet down. We just bought this house last year and remodeled it. We also blew in extra insolation in the attic last year too.
I don’t know if it’s because the weather is getting so cold or if it’s because we are keeping a constant drip, but when we turn on the faucets in the morning, at first, the water blows out kinda hard out of the faucet. Is that due to overuse of the baldder and well pump because we have the water on a constant drip to prevent pipes freezing or is it because of the cold weather?
Thanks!

kitchen faucet?

my kitchen faucet has lost lot of pressure all of a sudden. I did clean the aerator twice…no luck. And do not have a side spray. the faucet is the kind that you push a button to make it spray also. the problem is with both hot and cold water. incidentally this all happened when one of our pipes sprang a leak. the rubber washer deteriorated on an pipe supply line in the garage (where the water comes in from outside) and we had that repaired immediately but the problem with the faucet started at the same time and still persists. The pressure everywhere else is still the same (as before the leak). So what i can’t figure out is what is the relationship between the leak and the kitchen faucet only. And why is the faucet still messed up after the leak was repaired. We have checked all the valves to make sure they are open all the way. Showers upstairs have same pressure as before. Bathroom sink and toilet on same level as kitchen are still functioning as before too. This one’s a mystery!

My landlord pumps water out of a creek, up to the top of a mountain. From there he pipes into my house via black drip line. The drip line is laying on the ground. It runs for about 200 yards. I live in a wooded area. I am afraid to drink the stuff. Is this legal? What is drip line made of? Can it leach bad stuff into my drinking water? What does the building code say?

Culligan installed our water softner incorrectly last week and rust was flying out of all of our water spiggots. now our house was built in 1957 and the pipes are very old, galvanized steel. But, when culligan came back last night to reinstall the softner for us corrrectly, the rust that we thought that was spewing was resin, NOT rust. My husband and I fear that our water may be toxic now. Anyone know if this is possible or the case? We have a daughter and we aren’t comfortable with the situation. We may be hotel bound. Are we over reacting? HELP!

The water from a school drinking fountain was tested in late August and was found to contain an unacceptable concentration of lead. However, the water was tested again, after the students returned to school in September, and was found to be under the maximum allowable concentration. Suggest a possible explanation for this difference. Assume that the school was unused over the summer and that none of the pipes were replaced.
