My wife and I need to replace our water faucet filter. It is a used PUR filter that we got at a discount store. It lasted a while though I knew it would not last a long time because it was used. Never the less we need to get a new one. My wife likes the PUR water filters that also give out flavor water options through the filtered water, but I do not know. Do PUR water filters last a while when they are newly bought at an actual store (I want it to last at least 8 months before replacing it)? If not does anyone have experience buying faucet filters that would know which brand is the best?

Fluoride in Tap Water: Good or Bad?

Is fluoride in tap water beneficial or harmful? You always hear that it’s good for the teeth, but after having watch this video, the facts just seem a little different.

Now, I know that there are plenty of things in tap water (mercury, lead, etc.) that can be filtered out with something like a PUR filter or other similar products, but from what I’ve seen, a filtration system to filter out fluoride is fairly expensive.

Artesian and spring water are good alternatives to tap water, but the only problem is all the plastic bottles that most people don’t recycle. You also have to be careful of brands that bottle tap water, like Aquafina and Dasani.

I stay away from sodas as well because the company’s use unfiltered tap water in that too.

After having watched the video provided, what is your opinion on fluoridated water?

And please, don’t answer until you’ve watched the video. Thanks.

rained, you think that might fix the problem???? Hey Feds!!! Check me out…
Oh, and you could start inspecting all those commercial swimming pools, plus residential…half of them leak, and they won’t fix them till their chemical bill goes over 0 and they still won’t stay blue…
And another thing, anyone want to try reclaiming the storm water over the sewage water….I think a little oil sounds almost tasty after what our city water tastes like, AFTER going through a PUR filter…..
right, and thats why they are putting curves back into rivers, because they have it all figured out.

Dude,,you really haven’t seen how mankind has shaped the world, have you.. Maybe you should live a few more years so you can see for yourself, with your own two eyes, like me.

There’s plenty of water, it’s what we’ve done/do with it.

I have gone through two sports bottles because of mottling stains on the bottom that can’t be removed. They range from orange to brown. They can not be scratched off and I’ve put them through the dishwasher but nothing has an effect on them.

The only liquid that has ever been used is water from the faucet (I use a PUR filter if that matters). I carry the sports bottle with me everywhere I go so I’m always drinking out of it.

A friend joked that it could be fluoride staining the bottom and it is an interesting theory but I’m a bit concerned because I’d like to know what’s causing it.

The ultimate in home water filtration needed?

I had a PUR filter on my sink for about a year before it started falling apart and spewing water everywhere, tried the Brita pitcher and that also started leaking near the spout a month after I purchased. Im tired of spending money on these crappy products. I would buy a filter for the entire house but we rent. Whats the ultimate in home water solution that is fail proof? All I drink is water…

What should I do about horrible tap water?

They say that tap water is better than bottled water, both for us, and the environment. Here lies the problem. (I’m from NC btw) I used to drink straight from the sink or the fridge door. It tasted fine (like you would expect water to taste) and I almost replaced soda/tea/coffee entirely. I moved to TX (Killeen) and I can’t stand the water here! At first I could barely stand to take a shower in it but obviously I had to get used to it.(If I don’t keep the bathroom door open I still get that weird feeling like I’ve been in the pool too long) I tried attached a Pur filter to my tap, it didn’t really help. I took the filtered water and put it in a Brita pitcher… Nothing. I can still taste that chemically-cholriny gunk. I do buy water by the gallon rather than individual bottles, but I’d like to drink from the tap again. I can’t really modify my sink/plumbing area (yay apartment living). Other than the above filters and boiling water every time I get thirsty, what can I do? Buying all those gallons can’t be any better than buying Auqafina?
I checked the water reports available online for both my current city and my home. Home seems to have a lot less of most of the contaminants listed. *lightbulb*

I have no problem with drinking tap water usually, but in my apartment complex, you can often see the silt/residue in the water. So I got a water filter. Anyways, my pur filter seems to be expired (it blinks red, not green).

Is an expired water filter better than nothing, or is it adding more bacteria into my drinking water?

No other faucets in the house have lost pressure. I removed the Pur filter and the gaskets on the faucet thinking they were stopped up but the pressure is still very very slow.

What would make my tap water smell…?

What would make the water out of my kitchen faucet smell like dirt? I suspect it could be a leak somewhere, but there’s no debris coming out with the water. Just the smell. I use a Pur filter, but even with it turned on I can still smell the dirt. I rent my house and I’m not too sure my landlord wants to be digging up water pipes.
I am on city water. And it smells like dirt, not sulphur. It’s only from the kitchen tap and nowhere else.

Filtered tap water smell?

Whenever I use the faucet from the kitchen sink either with tap water or with the pur filter on it, the water smells like plant roots/soil. I noticed the smell a few months ago, but the water tastes and looks fine. However, it only occurs if I leave water either in the sink, or out for my cat; it will start to stink after about a day. Occasionally, it will come out of the tap smelling that way even through the filter, too. I’ve installed a brand new faucet with new pipes, and I’ve thoroughly cleaned out the sink and garbage disposal, but the smell continues. What could it be? What should I do?
Sorry, not only occurs, I mean usually occurs.

My dog isn’t drinking enough water i think?

So when i leave for school in the morning i give him fresh water (from the tap) and then when i get home there’s not much difference, as if he doesn’t drink it at all. So my bro and I filled up a water bottle with filter water (using that Pur filter). When we bottle fed it he wanted more, but when i lead him to his water bowl he doesn’t want to drink. I put some of this stuff called Aquafresh in the water, it’s a breath freshener. Still, he doesn’t drink it. I think it might be that the water’s from the tap. What’s happening, how do i get him to drink?
I used the dehydration test before, he wasn’t dehydrated. Yes, he knows how to drink out of a bowl because usually after dinner or after a walk he’d run up to it and take huge laps(slowly, we made sure it he didn’t gulp air). I’ll try using bottled water. When we put ice cubes, he just fishes them out and gnaws on them and leaves them to melt on the carpet/floor.

Is hard water safe for my newborn?

We have very hard water in our apartment. We bought a Pur Filter but that doesn’t help. I don’t use the water for my newborn’s formula, but I do use it to boil his bottle in. Is this harmful to him? What else can I do besides get a water softner? If the water is too bad, does my landlord have to get a softner?

Whats wrong with my PUR filter?

Well I bought a pur filter about 3 months ago and its been working great. The light filter was still green then out of nowhere it just stopped filtering. The faucet works normally and as soon as I flip the switch the water just stops and doesnt come out either side. Nor does the green light blink as it usually does. Do I need to change the filter even though the light is still green? Im having trouble unscrewing the cap so I would have to go buy one of those wrenches. Is there an easier fix?

Why does my refrigerator water taste so bad??

I have a 2 year old kenmore fridge that has the water filter cannister in the bottom. The water tastes and smells bad. I thought it was the PUR filter and I replaced it. It still is same. I then took out filter and flushed system(its a plastic tube coiled up behind the crisper). It still tastes and smells bad. Is it the line coming from under the faucet that connects to the fridge or the line inside the fridge or the water intake pump bad? I really flushed it good twice but the taste/smell comes back. Thanks John

Water purification for a newborn?

Do water filters, like Brita and Pur filter water enough to use to prepare formula, or would boiling/ bottled water still be needed?
