I have a Whirlpool stainless steel refrigerator and I replaced the water filter about 8 months ago, but I’m unable to remove the water filter since the cap of the filter has come out. Any suggestions as to how I can remove the filter?

My dad took out a refrigerator replacement water filter by Aqua Fresh with WF285 on it. It i is suppose to be compatible with whirlpool 4396508. However, the insertion parts on both in look different and he says the 4396508 does not fit properly, not matter what angle he inserts it in or how he turns it. Is there a different one that he should get, or is he he missing a step in the installation process?

The dispenser on the outside of my refrigerator has stuff all in it. I guess it’s black algae. What is a safe way to clean that?

…Does it filter out fluoride?
He does want to make sure his drinking water contains fluoride. But he is not sure what kind of filter the refrigerator uses for the drinking water. Does anyone know about this? Do most water filters allow the passage of fluoride?

I take water from home (well water) to work and keep it in the refrigerator in a gallon jug. Should I get rid of it if it is not drank in a certain period of time?

Why does tap water boil in a microwave within 2mins 50 secs and refrigerator dispensed water comes to a boil at 3mins 40secs? The refrigerator water isn’t cooled at all.

I have a new auger bucket (January) . My Freezer is completely empty of all foods, I replaced the water line (December) below the vegetable bin in the Refrigerator. I just had a Culligan 2-stage water filtration system installed on the water line going into the refrigerator.
The water coming out of the spout tastes fine. When I make ice cubes from the RO unit at the sink the ice tastes fine. The ice coming from the ice maker though still tastes bad almost like a penicillin taste especially when the ice thaws in a glass of water. Any ideas?

I noticed the first time I changed my PUR filter the used one was heavy, like water was in it. I have changed them since then when the time comes and the used ones no longer feel heavy-they weigh the same as the brand new ones I am replacing them with.
Is my water filter working properly? Is the water flowing through the filter?
Thanks for any help.
@FRED
Thanks for replying. I have no idea if I bypassed it. Do I pull the actual filter out of my refrigerator and look on there? Or is this something I would have pressed on the screen on my refrigerator?

I have a kemmore refrigerator. Two weeks ago I got up, went in the kitchen, and was walking in water. I looked and the water dispenser was slowly running water. Fiddling with it did not slow or speed up the water. I finally turned the water line feed off. What happened? Can I fix it?

…water output no longer filtered?
I use the PUR filters in my refrigerator and on my kitchen tap for water. The indicator lights will change from green to red in 45-60 days after a filter replacement, but the water will keep flowing for another 60-90 days before the filter completely clogs up, and then I have to replace the filter. During the period when the light is red, is the water still being purified? My guess is that it is.
I use a similar filter system when I go hiking, and the instruction manual states that the filter will only output clean filtered water and can be used up until it is completely clogged. But the data on the home filters only say to replace the filter immediately after the light goes red. I think they just want to sell more filters.

I don’t know WHAT they are called, but they go in the refrigerator. They have them at the store, but they look very cheesy and I got one a couple of years ago that never worked in the first place…so I want to spend more money and get something that works! Any ideas on where to look or what exactly they are called?

I’m moving into a subsidized apartment and problem is that there aren’t any water filters there not even on the refrigerator.
So do I actually need to buy them from the store?

Is there a place to mail them, or can you drop them off somewhere, generally?
Let me clarify just a bit… I have a water dispenser on my refrigerator door. I must purchase and use a filter with it. If it is possible to recycle these, where can I do it?
