I rent an apartment in the upstairs of a house without a water softener. Not having soft water is really taking a toll on my long hair, and I was wondering- is there any way that I could make soft-water myself? My landlord refuses to spend the money on a softener for the house. I just want a tub or sink-full amount of water to wash my hair…is there any way to do this? or is there any type of small filter that attatches to a faucet or anything?

I am getting some Amazonian fish like discus and angels and wanted to ask if they need soft water and low pH. I have some peat running through the filter and am getting Indian Almond Leaves. If they do need soft water I was going to get the API Water Softener Pillow and the Seachem Acid/Alkaline Buffer. Thanks

We’ve been living in our house for about a year now, and drinking the well water the entire time. I’ve developed health problems and needed an MRI, EKG, and some shots. My brother, sister and mother have developed health problems too. The only good thing that seems to have happened to us would be not having to move and our dentist being really impressed with the condition of our teeth.
A couple of days ago, we found out that our well water is has nearly 14 times as much arsenic as is allowed, 6 times as much floride, 9 times as much Iron and so on, so forth. We’ve been told not to drink or cook with it. My doctor thinks the only reason I held out so long(my families health issues started about half-a-year ago)is because I have low iron count and the water was actually improving my system.
The water doesn’t taste bad like city water, it tastes pretty good. How do we fix it so it’s drinkable? It’s supposedly soft water, but the only solution we know deals with hard water. Please help.

How does a Brita filter work?

I am just wondering how a Brita work.
Is it basically chromatography?

Does the Brita filter change hard water into soft water by removing Ca or Mg ions?

i’ve noticed a definite difference in the quality of water from los angeles vs. las vegas or hawaii. i’ve recently vacationed at the latter cities and despite my frequent showers (at the beach, pool and hotel rooms) my skin didn’t feel dry at all.
But once i returned to my home my hair and skin have felt significantly dryer. i’ve been considering a water filter for the whole house or a soft water system. by the way, i’m not sure if there’s a difference. but i’m wondering if either of these will make any difference. i’ve already installed a filtered shower head, but i couldn’t notice a big difference.

Right now I have hard water and drink water from my filtered water dispenser in my fridge. If I install soft water, will the water in my fridge be drinkable since it has the filter?
