Also The water started tasting funny. Like kinda sweet and chemical like splenda or something. I dont think my room mate would put splenda in the filter. But i took the filter off the sink just to check what was up and i found a bunch of green specks on the metal mesh screen. what is that? i will probably just get a new one.

On the box of the Brita filter, it says that it’s normal in the first 2 filtered pitchers to have "carbon dust" on the top part of the filter. However, black specks always appear on the top section of the pitcher. Not only that, but very small black specks appear in the bottom part of the pitcher containing the filtered water. Should I dump the pitcher? If so, what could I be doing wrong? I only use cold water as it specifies.

My family and I have been using a Brita water filter and we have noticed black specks in our drinking water, even after cleaning and replacing filters. This has turned me off of water filters all together and I want to switch back to bottled water. I would however like to know if there are any water filters that have few problems and can completely filter tap water.

I use the brita water filters. I pour water in from a glass jar into the pitcher so that I don’t have to run water directly from the spicket. I make sure to pour slowly.
Every brita filter we use always has the charcoal specks in it the whole time we use it from start to finish.
I am getting sick and tired of the charcoal specks every time I get a drink.
Is there a brand that doesn’t leak as much charcoal or any charcoal?
Please any suggestions would help. Thanks.
