Is it ok to use spring water for your betta fish's tank?
a friend of mine does. Is this ok for it? I would think so? Do you still have to use water conditioner for it?

I heard that if I put the city water / fountain water in a water container for couple days or a week, then I don’t need to use water conditioner. Is that true?
I have a freshwater aquarium that needs several water changes each week, due to it being heavily stocked. Now, the water that I’ve been using as replacement is tap water that I run through a Pur water filter, and I am also adding a water conditioner as an extra precaution. The filter is said to remove all heavy metals as well as a whole list of other things from my water. Do you think it would be fine to just trade out the straight up filtered water, or should I keep using the water conditioner. I’m just so sick and tired of measuring out chemicals for my fish tank!
Is there a way to know if my filter is removing the chlorine and chloramine from my water? For what it’s worth, it sure tastes chlorine-free!
i have about 20 guppies in a 25 gallon tank…..SHOULD I be changing the water that much? Its just guess work, really. I have no idea what I’m doing.
i’ve got the pH under control, its the chemicals i’m asking about
I have a 10 gallon tank, with a filter and heater. I was wondering if the water is supposed to be crystal clear like when I first put the water in the tank with the water conditioner & bacteria fighter? Or is it supposed to be slightly cloudy all of the time? I’m on day 4 of the cycling proccess, and I’m supposed to go to Petco for the fish on Friday, so I don’t want the fish to die or anything in my water. Right now it’s slightly cloudy, but the right temperature. Thanks!
Should I use distilled, spring, drinking water? Which is best and do I still have to add water conditioner to the bottle water before putting it in the tank? Thanks
Well I have a 10 gallon aquarium with everything you need, filter, heater, gravel, plants, ect.
And I plan on getting cardinal tetras and shrimp.
Anyways what i did to cycle it was fill it up with tap water an inch from the top, add water conditioner/dechlor stuff, added 5 drops of pure ammonia, waited a week, and 3 days into cycling it i put a Zebra Danio in there to get the cycling process speeded up and to make sure the water is ok for my future fish. Also the temp is 77F.
Well I bought a pH water testing kit from petco for nd i test the water daily. first i tested pure tap water and it said 7.6. then every day i tsted my aquarium water and it comes up 7.6 every time. one time to test if it worked i filled it up with nothing but ammonia (not even water) and it came up 7.6. I don’t think this works and my mom won’t get me another kit.
But my danio (Danny) is fine and how will i know if my tank is cycled?
Its already been a week and i think the water is ok, can i start slowly adding fish yet?
my water isnt cloudy its very clear and i never saw it cloudy.
Well as a last resort to dealing with my continuing ammonia problems, I have replaced 1/2 of my fish tank water with distilled water. The pet store recommended trying the distilled water. Will it really make that big of a difference?
Could it really be something in my tap water creating my ammonia problems? I’ve tested my tap water for ammonia and its very low if any at all.
After a day or so, it takes typically three 30% water changes in the same day to bring the ammonia levels back down. So theres not really any extra food or waste in there as often as I’m vacuuming it out.
The tank is 10 gallons.
After the tank had run for 3 weeks, the ammoina levels were off the charts, and water changes wouldn’t bring it back down, so I changed all the water. The new water is maybe 2 weeks old
As for fish,
2 – Mollies ~1.5" -2" long
2- Xray tetras – ~1" long
2- dwarf frogs – ~1" long
2- small algae eaters ~1" long
1- spotted cory catfish ~1" long
I’ve stopped using all ammoina preventing products, based on some advice in a previous questions, and have just been changing water as necessary to keep the ammonia levels in check.
I have still been adding water conditioner to the water I have added, including the distilled water. My water here is extremely hard, and has a bunch of minerals in it, which is the reason I went along with the distilled water being a good idea.
The orange guys, which I believe are Mollies, require salt, which I have been adding the proper amount to any water I add.
Also there shouldn’t be excess food in there, when I feed them I drop food in, anything they haven’t eaten within a minute or so I scoop back out.
I’ve tried both cycle, and Prime, niether has had any effect. But then again I’ve stopped using any chemicals other than water conditioner at the moment.
I got a betta and had it in a tank and the water wasn’t staying as clean as I wanted it to be so I got a small filter and it seems fine. I am not sure if it is filtering the water conditioner I put in there.
I have had a goldfish, which lives in a bowl, for about 6 weeks. When I got the goldfish, the clerk at the pet store told me to take out 25% of the water each week, and replace it with clean water that has been treated with water conditioner. I have been doing this, and the water has stayed clear.
The problem is that there is a bunch of fish poop at the bottom of the bowl. It looks really gross.
I want to change all of the water in the bowl, but I am afraid that it will hurt the fish. The clerk at the pet store told me that the fish needs the bacteria in the water and I should not change all of the water at once. What do you think? Does anyone change all of the water regulary? Does it have any negative affects on the fish?
I have a series 168 water conditioner system that I inherited from the previous owners. I have the manual, but that is all. It was not plugged in when I bought the condo and is still not plugged in because I tried to use it once and it kept re-filling itself and disolving all the salt with in days.
The fish has only been in our home for three days and i have heard that our tap water is really bad but only from one neighbor so i admittedly dont really know, but just in case i put the water in the bowl he was in through a water filter. (One of those water pitcher kind by Pur.) Now that i have a 10 gallon being set up for him I am faced with the idea of filtering (slowly) ten gallons. Do i need to stick with the filtered now or is it ok to use regular tap water? I will be using anti stress water conditioner so the chlorine will be taken care of. Please help.
My question is, why can’t I just use a tap water conditioner, such as Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Conditioner, or Top Fin Water Conditioner instead of purchasing a RO/DI water system for my nano reef? If the RO/DI system is meant to remove all of the minerals etc, and the chemicals do the same, what’s the difference?
Thanks in advance for your help.
I have a private well system here in Wasilla, AK and I am not happy with the water quality. I used a shower filter to remove chlorine etc when I lived in California but that is not the problem now. The water causes dry skin, tastes horrible and seems to have a lot of calcium and iron in it. I had some tests done and was offered a Water conditioner that uses polymer beads and a seperate system that uses reverse osmosis to filter and soften all of the water in the house. This will cost around 00 is that the best way to go or does anyone know of a better option? I do want to filter all of the water in the house for drinking, cooking, bathing laundry etc. Are there certain things I need to leave in the water for health reasons? Is it ok to strip the water of as many minerals etc as I can?
