I am starting to look at getting either a diatom filter or a UV sterilizer for my 75 gallon freshwater aquarium. Why? Because i have had water clairity issues from day one (tank is 5 months old). Please dont respond and tell me what i could be doing wrong to correct my water. I have posted here for help previously and got some great advice, but still have cloudy water. I have exhausted every possiblility (keeping tank darkened, innumerable polishing pads, water clairifier, reduced food fed, water changes, increased tank temp, resident pleco, etc..) All water parameters (pH, ammonia, nitrates/rites,alkalinity) are within normal limits. The tank is specically set up for discus fish (soft water at about 84 degrees F). So adding a bunch of chemicals is not an option. I am at my wits end here so all of you fish experts out there please tell me why you would recommend either a diatom filter or a UV sterilizer. I would love to get a diatom but its so expensive that i just i was wondering if a UV can provide me with the same results? I know very little about both options. If I can provide any more infor i’ll check back and add anything i may have forgotten.

Thank you all in advance for your help! :o )

Okay, so its not a tap water problem because i dont use tap water. I use strictly RO water. This also rules out any chlorine issue.

And to answer the other question brought up, as i described in my question i have used a water clairifier. A few different kinds actually. Nothing changed. I am currently using a Fluval 405 filter. I am not one bit impressed with… obviously.
Also, again ammonia isnt a problem. I test my water regularly and none of my parameters are abnormal.

i konw for a fact their are no air bubbles in the line, i am not on city water it is a well and i am currently puting in a filter before the water softener, and i know there are very good plumbers out there i’m just saying the 4 plumbers that have tryed to help me have said " wow this really has me stumped" thanks for everyones input so far 2 things i’m currently trying to do to resolve the problem since i know my electricity is good and my elements are good is 1 put in a inline filter before the sofner 2 set my water softener up for every day instead of every 3 days which is what the culligan guy set it up as, and 3 possibly changing the brand new elements from the ge ones they sent me to sand hog ones i here they are better any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you everyone for your input so far

I had to cut my water on and off for a few days b/c the water has been running inside the water heater. It seems like the water problem was coming from the bath tub. I had to replace the shower and the bath knobs for it to stop running. Now I am getting cold water due to this problem. How do I get the hot water to work again after cutting it on and off?

Water!!!???

It looks like to me that lots of people in some sections of Answers answer only with ‘water’ like it is solution for everything. OK, it is important for all living creatures on Earth, but come on! A guy ask about diet, someone answer with ‘drink water’, someone ask what to do with his skin problem, the other person answers with ‘water water and water’

Do people take other people for fools!? Well of course we will drink water otherwise we wouldn’t be alive!!!

Do you agree with me about this ‘water’ problem, or I just caught to many watery questions?

Will a shower filter solve my hard water problem?

I just moved into a new apartment and water here is EXTREMELY hard. It’s so hard that my skin hurts. My skin’s peeling off (this used only happen during the winter months…) My hands are constantly red just because I wash them like everybody else. My skin is cracking like crazy, too. I didn’t have this problem before I moved in. I’m currently combatting this problem with loads of moisturizers, but this water problem is killing my rosacea ridden skin…
Will a shower filter (Aquasana is the brand I’m considering) solve my hard water problem?
I live in an apartment… so how will I ever add a water softener?
