I live in the city and I am moving to the country real soon. I dont think it makes a difference, but I just want to be 100% sure. We will be using well water with a water softener for our household needs. I will still use water treatment before adding to my tank, just want to be sure there is not something I dont know about. Thank you.

water softeners and septic tanks?

is it safe and od to use a water softener if you have a septic tank? Will the salts added to the system affect the workings of the septic system?

We are on a well for our water supply, and it is good with the exception of too much iron. We have a water softener which removes most of the excess iron, but are about to install an irrigation system for the yard and plants. We want to remove much, if not most, of the iron before it goes into the sprinklers to reduce rusty stains, clogging of the nozzles, etc, and to reduce the load on the existing water softener.

I remember seeing, 15 years ago, someone who used an external wound-fiber core type of filter, from what I remember of it. Is that still the best, where are they available, what is better, etc?

Suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Coach Craig

water softener info from someone who has one?

We moved into a house a couple months ago that has "hard water." We’re thinking about getting a water softener but we’ve never had one….so any opinions/advice/information from someone who has one would be great? What kind of maintenance do they require? How do you pick one? Is there such a thing as water that is too soft? Is soft water healthy…does adding all that salt have any health effects?

My water softener membrane broke?

Yesterday, we discovered that the water pressure for all our faucets was extraordinarily low. After consultation with a plumbing company, it turned out that the membrane for water softener literally disintegrated into numerous microscopic BBs, almost like sand, and is now floating in the pipes. Apparently, this incident is not covered in our insurance plan.

What would be the most cost effective or least hassle-less solution?
*most hassle-less

I bought an ezdeluxe tankless water heater from http://www.eztankless.com Do I really need to install a filter or water softener? I have heard that these types of water heaters can get clogged.

we just bought 55 gallon freshwater tank and put our fish in it after water temp was good, and 4 of our 6 fish died. The tank smells horrible. We reused rocks that were in the bottom of tank before, but didnt strain them.Or maybe we added salt from water softner from bathtub??help?
We used water that came from a water softener. but also used some of the water from the original tank they were in. The tank does have a bad strong smell that is believed to be ammonia smell we have read about. The fish before dieing kept going to the top of the water and then back down? We have transported fish to different tanks with no problems and this time our four smaller fish died within half hour. Only other fish in there are placo’s. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We are having a culligan rep out tonight to give us an installation quote for a rent-to-own water softener. Does anyone have any idea what they will charge and what is reasonable? If we were to buy our own outright we would not need to pay to have it installed (handy husband), but we would prefer to go though rent-to-own route right now versus shelling out hundreds of dollars up front, as we just bought our house and have about a million other big purchases looming.

Thanks!

Sometimes when I turn on my tap, the water is a little yellowish, and the toilet bowls fill up with yellowish water too. Why?
I contacted my water management system, and they gave me a few things to try. The one that seemed to work was pushing the bypass button on my water softener. He said that even if the water softener wasn’t in use, the water still went through it, and eventually the chlorine would build up so bad it would start interacting with the water and turn in yellow. Interesting.

will water softeners remove rust?

I am trying to determine whether to buy a water softener or water conditioner. I am getting conflicting stories about which will work better. Some say they are pretty much the same and some say a water condtioner is the only thing that will get rid of rust. Any suggestions?

Are Kenmore water softeners any good??

We need a water softener and are thinking about getting a Kenmore. The plumber told me that is not a good idea. Is that true or does he just want me to buy the one from him??

so i am thinking of getting a water softener but i really don’t want a salt or potassium one. I have been on many water treatment web pages and they say that these don’t work, but then again, these guys don’t sell the salt-less so i figure they are just telling what will get them a sale in the end. Has anyone bought one of these solutions for their home and if so, does it truly work?

I have a water softener in my house. Is there any sort of drinking water purifier (preferably a pitcher) that will filter out the salt from the soft water?

I just moved into a place that has well water and it has iron and sulfur in it. I have a water softener and a double filtration system in place but my hair is still somewhat orange from the water. The water runs clear but still stains the tubs, sinks, toilets, washer, and my hair. What do I do? I am renting and love the house!
