My well water is highly corrosive. It has destroyed 3 pressure tanks in two years and has caused numerous leaks in the system. I am using a slow sand filter. The well supplies the water used for irrigation on our property too. We consume roughly 15,000 gallons of water a day from that well.
Does anyone know a good system to handle that high a volume of water? Thanks

How to remove well water taste?

It isn’t bad water or anything wrong with it. I just hate the taste of well water. I am use to city water. Anything we can do to make it taste more like bottled water or city water? I know that you can’t drink water after it comes from a softner, the salt isn’t good for you. But the well water flavor has to go. It is just nasty. And makes ice even taste funny.

well water…?

alright i know that you are never supposed to mix your baby’s formula with well water. i’m going to my grandmothers with my daughter for a couple days so i’ve bought drinking water to mix her bottles with since all my grandma has is well, but is it going to hurt to wash her bottles in the well water?

I’ve done a fair amount of research into the chemicals dumped into municipal tap water. Did you know that fluoride is actually a harmful chemical? Yep. AND has not been conclusively proven to strengthen tooth enamel. But, all the water filtering jugs n such (ie Brita and Pur for a couple) say they remove ‘most chlorine, but leave the beneficial levels of fluoride’. I come from well-water upbringing, (best water on earth!!), but now have city water. My cat is licking her fur and chewing like her skin is bothering her… and this has started since I switched her from Reverse-Osmosis water from the ranch in CA to the city water here in SC. I’m poor (read BROKE), but I can afford a big jug of water if it’ll help her feel better. So… Distilled? or ‘purified drinking water. What’s your opinion?

Why do some people say water is delicious?

They might have some filtered or bottled water and brag about how delicious it is. Well, i got news for you – the more pure your water, the more tasteless it is. So maybe it doesn’t taste bad, like your sulphur-infested well water, but it certainly is not delicious, unless you added some chocolate cake to it.

SO why do people say delicious water?

We have really hard well water. I currently use a chemical water softener, but it changes the taste and adds potassium chloride to the water. I would like to find a non chemical solution. I have seen magnetic and frequency based water softeners, but have not seen any studies (other than by the mfg) that indicates that they work.

I had my well water tested and they recommend water softener and UV disinfection system installed?

I called a local water maintenance company and this is what they said:

Iron 0.4
Manganese 0
PH 7.5
Sulfur None
Hardness 14
etc

He said my water is very hard so I need a softener. But I told him that my main concern was more about bacteria, then he said he can install UV system too. All together over ,200 for devices and installation services and it will take a few days he says.

After some own research, I realized that water softener is different from a filter and I eventually need a water filter too for drinking water!

Anyway, I was quite surprised from what the water guy said because my neighbor just installed a whole house filter system for less than ,000 and he says his water is just great (he does test every year). So he tells me to go buy a good water filter and have a local plumber install the system for one day.

I am really confused now….should I go with a water softener, UV disinfection system, and also drinking water filter (extra)? All together it will be easily over 00.

Or can I just get away with a good water filter system like Aquasana or Whirlpool or Culligan which will be much less $, simple, and fast?

If you know about water, please let me know what would be the best!!

Thank you so much.

Please advise…I have purchased a home some time ago. The house is on well water and not city water. Because I did not have any strange "sulfuric" smells I did not install a water softener.

Someone has advised me that this is a bad idea that I should get one because calcium deposits will build up and destroy my pipes. Please advise me if this is true or not. Should I get a water softener…I will hate to pay a 25 dollar a month to the Culligan people. Do you have and ideas or alternatives.

I have very hard, alkaline well water and the pH reading is around 7.8 or so. I use AquaSafe water conditioner and Stress Coat. I just recently added some Highland Rose sandstone formations to my tank as I have heard that this type of stone can help to buffer the pH to neutral. How can I neutralize the pH without adding a lot of chemicals? Answers are greatly appreciated!

During the last month, my mother and I moved out of the city to a very secluded location far out in the open country. The house and landscaping are beautiful, and there are no neighbors! The thing is, we lived in the city all our lives until this last month and we know absolutely nothing about well water. Recently, I heard on the news a story about a couple who’s well water surprisingly dried up during the winter. The new landlord had already installed a water pump before we moved in, and Culligan the water purification "experts", came out a few weeks ago to install a water softener which supposedly will eventually eliminate the egg water smell. But during my last conversation with our landlord, I failed to ask him if the well drying up was a possibility during the Fall, Spring, Summer, and especially in the winter. Your answer to this question will be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

purifying "city" water?

Im used to drinking well water straight from the tap and we get it tested every year to make sure we dont need a filter. Now Im away at college and its getting pretty old carrying those 2.5 gallon jugs from the grocery store to my dorm.. Are you able to filter city water with just those little filters (http://www.amazon.com/PUR-DS-1800Z-2-Stage-Water-Dispenser/dp/B0006MQCA4)? or do you need a whole system?

Why does our hot water smells like rotten eggs?

We recently replaced the anode rod which was just about gone, by the way with an aluminum one. We have a fairly new water softener due to having well water and also have a Culligan whole house water filtration unit. After replacing the anode rod, we ran the monthly bleach through the whole house water filtration unit. Now the hot water smells like eggs.
