water softeners vs water filters?
I live in Las Vegas and of course the water here is nasty. which is better for keeping mineral deposits off my dishes/sinks/showers and make the water taste better?
What is the difference between the two?

Softeners make the water less abrasive and purifiers filter the water out. I go to college in a town where the water has failed inspection the past 4 years. The water is absolutely gross so I went through this thing before and bought filters. I have a Brita pitcher and I love it and my girlfriend has a Pur water purifier on her sink tap and it works very nicely as well. So as far as brands, either is great, its just a matter of what type of filter to buy.
A water softener ADDS things to the water. A filter removes things from the water.
You need a reverse osmosis system for the water that you drink, make ice or cook with. This fits under your kitchen sink.
You need a whole house water filter for the rest of the water in your house. It will filter and remove chlorine from the water, but not to the purification level of the water that you drink.
