What does water retention have to do with visibility of abdominal muscles?

And what should I do?
I want to get more visible abs, and I’m doing a great job of getting the fat off. But I’ve heard that water retention is part of the reason abs don’t show up. So does that mean I should try and sweat out all the water? Any information you could share would be appreciated.

if you drink the recommended water per day. (for body builders, i try to drink a gallon or more per day) then your muscles will seem bigger and more full.
guys doing body building shows, stop drinking water a day before the show so they can look ripped.
Underwear models before a photo shoot and body builders before a show will dehydrate themselves to get more muscle definition.
But this is temporary, just for a day.
You cannot dehydrate yourself on an every day basis just to get more visible abs.
Stop trying to look like the retouched pictures in magazines or those dehydrated guys in tv infomercials. unless you really want to spend 6 hours a day pumping iron.
If your abdomen is bloated (distended) due to water retention, this may affect the visibility of your abs. If that’s your problem you need to address what’s causing the bloating. Getting dehydrated won’t cure water retention and will actually make it worse by teaching the body to hold on to water.
