What is it like when your water ‘breaks’?
Is it a large amount of liquid at once, or is it a slow trickle?
I am just wondering because I am currently doing clinical hours in a hospital an hour away from my ‘home’ hospital. I am packing a bag to change in case my water breaks or I go into labor at my clinical site.
I was wondering if my change of clothes would be enough or if I would need some towels to sit on for the drive to my delivery hospital.

Well lets just say it is like Hover Dam breaking open.
it can go either way! Mine was a sudden gush…but my cousin had a trickle starting at 26 weeks and had to be hospitalized!!
at our childbirth class they said it could be a gush or a trickle. depends if the bag is blocked by the babies head then it will be a slower trickle. bring towels just in case
Champagne cork Popping and the champagne running over!
Mine trickled out so I just needed to wear a pad. Some people’s gushes out…and some doesn’t break at all and have to be broken at the hospital.
for every women its different. My water broke with a gush. I put underwear on and super heavy duty pad in it. Well I made the mistake of sitting down waiting for my ride, WHen i stood up it gushed even more i had to change my underwear and pants agian. Once your water breaks it keeps going. For some women its a trickle but mine was a gush!
Mine started out as slightly wet undies (I just thought it was sweat). Then, as I was standing in my kitchen making muffins, there was a gush (I could feel it….and the only word I can use to describe it was gush), and my underwear were soaking wet. It trickled a little down my legs, but it wasn’t like I had a puddle on the floor between my legs.
You would probably want a towel and maybe a garbage bag to put underneath the towel.
ok mine was like a gush of fluid coming out every second. so it was like gush, stop gush, stop gush… i sat on the toilet til it stopped gushing out, then it trickled and small gushed, so i wore a pad to the hospital it worked fine. but if you want to bring a towel that would be a good idea too.
it was like i was peeing my self and coulnt stop, after that it was a intermitint trickle. i would say pack some pads or depends diapers (i used thos on a tip from a friend. they worked great for bleeding after ward, i didnt have to worrk about leaking
anyways some pads or depends if your water breaks, but not all does, i think its 20% . mine broke 2 hours into labor. the pains were less then menstral cramps … at that time..
I was sitting right next to my best friend when her water broke. At first she honestly thought she peed herself…then she pushed her chair back a little bit and it was like niagra falls. My sis in law told me the same happened to her, lol. So I would have towels in your car, just to be safe, lol. My husband keeps telling me that for like the last 2 months of my being pregnant (im not yet but we’re gonna start ttc) he’s gonna keep my seat n my side of the bed covered, lol.
All I know is my own experience. It was sudden. But the quantity was not really that much. (It feels like more if it suddenly happens!) But the quantity is really just a cup or two of liquid.
I’d throw a towel into the change of clothes bag. That’s all you will need.
Happy delivery!
sorry not real sure, but should be in a book somewhere im guessing sorry could not be of more help
For me i had this cramp(contraction) in my stomach and so i got up to go to the bathroom and it was a big gush..and every step i took more came out..i had to have lots of towels..lol
It depends..It can be a trickle or a rush or a rush then some trickle for a while after. I had mine broke and it was a rush of warm water then for like an hour it would leak out here and there..I would bring a towel..That’s what I sat on in the hospital for a while. =)
Good Luck!
My water never broke. I was 8cm dilated, been in labour for about 4 hours when i finally got to hospital my midwife had to break them for me. She said that she once delivered a baby that was still inside the amniotic sac.. no idea how that would work
Usually a gush and then you leak everytime you have a contraction.
it s like peeing ur pants but its gonna hurt
