Why am I having cold water running in my house after cutting on and off the water gauge outside?

I had to cut my water on and off for a few days b/c the water has been running inside the water heater. It seems like the water problem was coming from the bath tub. I had to replace the shower and the bath knobs for it to stop running. Now I am getting cold water due to this problem. How do I get the hot water to work again after cutting it on and off?

Sounds to me as if you have a water heater problem. They need to come back and check the elements in the unit to see if they are heating the water properly. Also, the handles in your shower could be reversed. Try the cold side to see if you can get hot water out of that side.
maybe a water line is broke.
If you turned off the water supply without shutting down your water heater, you may have made the water heater burn up.
well who ever fixed your problem must have fliped the hoses around. hot to cold cold to hot. try turnin on the cold to feel hot, and then hot to feel cold. if that’s what you feel then you need that persone to redo the job. if that’s not the problem then it might be 1 of these two, if you have a gas operated water heater, you need check to see if the flame is on in the pilot. if you have an electric then maybe it’s burnt out from the leak (you might have to buy another one). but to save you money, check it out.
MAYBE YOU HAVE AIR IN YOUR HOT WATER TANK, YOU CAN TRY TO RELEASE IT FROM THE SMALL TAP AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR TANK, BE CARE FULL ITS GOING TO SPRAY HOT WATER OUT.SEE IF A LOT OF AIR COMES OUT. IF NOT CHEEK THE PILOT LIGHT SEE IF THATS OUT IF ITS GAS. CALL SHE ONE FOR HELP IF YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT GAS AND SHUT IT OFF, YOU COULD GET CARBON DIOXIDE POISONING
If you have a gas heater the pilot lite is probably off, if is electric check your circuit breakers to see if it tripped off. Don’t understand why turning the water off would cause this problem.
Cycle the Water Heater, if its Gas, check that the Pilot or whatever ignition source is functional, if it is electric, cycle the Breaker.
You ever notice that Sigot looks like an Outdoor Faucet on the water heater? well Empty it out, then refill it.
If you have water flowing in the pipes, but have no hot water, the Water Heater is the most likely thing to inspect.
Need to be clearer. Assuming you no longer have a water leak after you turned the water back on and there is no warmth generated when you touch the water heater, then the water heater is the problem.
If it is gas, you need to re-lite the pilot light, if electric, you need to reset the circuit breaker.
Although if this is the issue, there would be some concern of further damage to your water heater as it appears you did not turn off the power source to the heater prior to shutting off the water. This would only be a concern to me if the water heater emptied from the leak during the "few days" you had the water shut off.
