Why do I have salt deposits on my dishes from my water softener?
Every time we run our dishes through the dishwasher they come out looking like they didn’t get rinsed very well. Some friends told us that our water softener isn’t working correctly. I’ve also noticed deposits in the tray below our water and ice dispenser in our refrigerator. Is there an easy fix for this problem that a Do It Yourselfer can handle? Or do I need to have a professional come out and maintenance it?

We have that too, it’s lime. Basically, you can get an expensive softener for your water. That’s about all we have found.
We have tried the dishwasher cleaner things, they work for a load or two and stink up the kitchen.
Heavy lime in the water will screw up your plumbing, it sucks, but sadly there is no other way around it that a softener to pull the lime out.
(My cobalt glasses look like poo when I put them in the dishwasher, I’ve started just washing them by hand)
Try Oxy dishwasher soap. Also, maybe potassium instead of sodium for the softner.
stop using the dishwasher… never had one never will…dont see the need for one unless you enjoy wasting…1)electricity
2) water
3) your time(it takes longer to set up your washer than washing them yourself!)
